Doctor Doctor

I wonder whether the reason was do to with the quality of the new season or that they just wanted to air it with MAFS in early 2020… I hope it does eventually go to air.

More likely that Nine thinks they’ve already won the year so might save it for next year. They do stuff like that, as do Seven.

Might also need the drama points next year since they haven’t announced any other new dramas. Bad Mothers won’t get a second season and SeaChange might be the only other option.

Name of first episode and cast listed on IMDB ,NextEpisode and TVDb so not sure if that’s an indicator of an airdate this year…

The Doctor Doctor page on nine’s website has been updated to say that Doctor Doctor ‘Returned’ in 2019.

Shouldn’t that be “Returning”?

See the first paragraph, could be a typo but it wasn’t there before…

This will only lead to piracy as UK fans put up the episodes on the net for others to download.
Nine should consider streaming the new season on 9Now at the same time as Britain to avoid spoilers.

So Australians get treated as second class citizens again. Very stupid, Nine.

The way they’ve delayed it makes me think Nine don’t have much confidence in it progressing past this season. They did the same thing with other dramas that they gave up on.

Poor form from nine. it seems like there is a lot of loyal viewers here in Australia that would be disappointed any may now turn to other methods to watch the new season before it airs on nine. I’ll be waiting but others may not.

Season 4 premieres Wednesday, February 5 at 9pm (see full media release below).
According to Wikipedia, series 4 aired in UK (world premiere), Sweden and USA in November and December 2019.

Season 4

Wednesday 5 February at 9.00pm 10 episodes.

Australia’s favourite bad boy, Dr Hugh Knight ( Rodger Corser ), is back with a vengeance along with his marvellously dysfunctional family for a fourth series of Nine’s hit drama, Doctor Doctor .

After serving out his probation in Whyhope and saving the family farm, Hugh faces the fight of his life – for love, career and family. Will Whyhope’s naughtiest doctor have the right stuff, or will he self-destruct and lose everything?

Doctor Doctor showcases a stellar returning cast including Nicole da Silva (Charlie), Ryan Johnson (Matt), Tina Bursill (Meryl), Hayley McElhinney (Penny), Matt Castley (Ajax), Chloe Bayliss (Hayley), Belinda Bromilow (Betty), Charles Wu (Ken) and Miranda Tapsell (April).

Joining the cast for series four are Dustin Clare (Glitch, Wolf Creek, Spartacus, Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities), Kate Jenkinson (Wentworth, Offspring, Tangle) and Robyn Nevin (Top of the Lake, Upper Middle Bogan, Back in Very Small Business).

After serving out his probation and saving the family farm, Hugh’s determination to be a good parent is severely challenged by the temptations of the new medic in town. A reflection of his former self, she is serving time in the country for bad behaviour.

One year has passed and Hugh (Rodger Corser) has spent the last 12 months doing something unnatural – being good. A good father to his baby. A good farmer. A good doctor. But it doesn’t last as ‘bad boy Hugh returns with a vengeance.

And the timing couldn’t be worse: as a cashed-up health care group is preparing to close the deal to purchase and expand the Knight-Cartwright Clinic. But Hugh goes on a bender the night before the big meeting and manages to spectacularly screw up the negotiations. This results in only half the deal – they will still buy the clinic, but they want to move it far away from Whyhope – and Hugh.

There is a new doctor in town. A dangerous reminder of his former self, in Tara (Kate Jenkinson) Hugh can see a soul mate in the party hard lifestyle that he thought he had left behind. It’s a match that can only end in tears.

When Dinah (Robyn Nevin) , Hugh ’s American mother in law from hell, arrives - she has an agenda … to get custody of her grandchild Eliza. Hugh ’s behaviour gives her ample grounds and the stage is set for a battle royale. Fortunately, Meryl (Tina Bursill) is there to save the day – and the family.

Meanwhile Penny (Hayley McElhinney) has fallen in love with Jarrod (Dustin Clare) , a seemingly safe and reliable mining manager. Hugh is adamant it’ll never last, so is stunned when Penny and Jarrod decide to get married. Hugh is determined to bust them up. And in his attempts at doing so, he drives Penny further away.

Matt ’s (Ryan Johnson) brewery is thriving and his relationship with April (Miranda Tapsell) seems to be going well, but there is trouble in paradise as Charlie (Nicole da Silva) reappears in town determined to win him back.

When a seat becomes vacant on council, Meryl jumps at the chance to get back into local politics. However she’s shocked to find herself opposed by rival candidate Ajax (Matt Castley) who is looking to protect the integrity of the land and shore up his pride. This puts Hayley (Chloe Bayliss) in an awkward position and she has to make some hard decisions about where her allegiances lie.

At the hospital, Ken (Charles Wu) and Betty (Belinda Bromilow) desperately try to keep the hospital in running order, despite never ending drama from patients - and staff. But when Betty discovers that Meryl had a hand in her break up with Darren (Uli Latukefu), she decides to branch out from the hospital and team up with Ajax to take her down.

Wondering how likely a 5th Season is for this. You would think if they are going into production this year announcement would be before or when final episode of current season airs and if next year likely at the upfronts later in the year.

Nine have it looks like postponed the remaining episodes of this season of Doctor Doctor to be replaced with the late news. Would have thought with multi channels and catchup they could have continued showing episodes somewhere for the fans

They announced it should return next week, 1 April, but we’ll see.

Returns April 22.

Returns at 7.30 too. Good move with some variety in the 7.30 slot and also avoids The Secret She Keeps as well.

Tonight’s episode had the F bomb uncensored.

I thought that kind of language wasn’t permitted in the 7.30 timeslot?

I think they can get away with the occasional F-bomb at 7.30 if the show is rated M (which is allowed at 7.30). Too many will probably land them in trouble with the ACMA.

It will be interesting to see if viewers complain about this, now that M rated programs can screen at 7.30pm.

I think some families won’t be impressed that the 8.30pm watershed has shifted.
