Bit of a random question but will people still have to retune if their tv is set to auto-update?

Seven’s multiplex over the last few hours -

74 7Mate HD 5.40
76 7Flix 2.40

Very common question that gets asked here a lot.

Best practice is to always do a full rescan after any change. All devices are different. Some leave traces of old channels in their cache which produces weird results after a change. Some don’t and apply the changes live as they happen without you needing to do anything.

There are so many different devices from different countries with different software and frontends that there really is no surefire guarantee that a change will be smooth.

Depends what you mean by auto update. If it means software updates then this is completely separate to updates to the way digital channels are delivered.

As for whether you have to rescan, it depends on the TV. Some TVs will automatically update/add/delete new/old subchannels when they tune into a multiplex and there have been changes. Others will not and have to be rescanned.

The AFLW that is currently on 7TWO in Sydney (due to WBBL on 7mate) is the perfect example of why we need to move from MPEG2 SD ASAP…… the picture quality is woeful.

We have the opposite in Victoria, WBBL on 7TWO and AFLW on 7mate. I unfortunately think 7TWO will be in MPEG-2 SD for the time being, as @RFBurns said it is only the first step to make other markets in line with RQLD, hinting that there could be more.

It’s more pronounced with AFLW as there is a lot more movement on screen than there is in the WBBL.

Meanwhile regional QLD has both 7Two and 7Mate in HD with no SD simulcasts.

Have they confirmed weather or not 7two would go hd next year in metro areas?

Was in RQLD recently and have to say that 7Two HD looked fantastic. Hopefully not long until 7 follows suit in other markets.

Is that from Sunshine Coast? Looks great.

A huge leap for 7QLD from 2018 when I was in Airlie Beach and could only watch the AFL Grand Final on the main channel in SD.

Yes - Ch 6, 60 and 61 are all 7HD with 62 and 63 are both 7Two HD, 64 is 7Mate HD - most of the rest of regional QlD it is 7,70, 71 72,73,74.

None have the content in 4K to compete with Foxtel.

7Two, 7Flix, 9Go!, 9Life, 10 Peach, ABC News, ABC Plus and 10 Shake should all be in HD with SD simulcasts dropped

Is there a need to compete in 4K with Foxtel? I am yet to be convinced HD is not enough.

Yes, to avoid further falling behind streaming services.
