The other issue is that they are taxpayer funded. SBS in part. So there could be screams from people who lose access to a service they believe they’re “entitled” to. That said, ABC and SBS should do it anyway. How many years are we going to hang on to MPEG2?!
With Mt Gibraltar (and to an extent Knights Hill) DTV Transmission today, we were sent back to the past where the only Commercial Station on air was WIN (Channel 9) with 7 and 10 off air locally while the ABC and SBS are still on air. Despite me not being born until 10 years after Aggregation, it felt like a throwback to the past when WIN-4 was the only Commercial station locally (unless you count signals from Sydney)
How come 7 and 10 were off air?
Probably a problem with the feed or something.
LCN20 will be redundant when LCN2 is swapped over to HD. Therefore, the olds who still think analogue VHF 2 for the ABC (bless them) will be none the wiser.
Thank you answered my question, I thought it was a Tropo issue, but WIN and ABC from Knights Hill are fine. Is this an Illawarra issue or are we looking at the whole of Southern NSW?
It was just an Illawarra issue, I think that microwaves are used to retransmit Knights Hill onto Mt Gibraltar and if you are not getting the Microwave Signal as the main transmitter is off air then no signals are feed to the relays.
With that kind of attitude, we’d still be on analogue TV!
Sometimes you need to just cut the chord and force people to upgrade.
Saw an ad for it. So I guess that means 7flix is the only non HD channel for 7. I know not many people watch it but for the channel with movies/tv shows and called ‘Flix’ it should probably be HD too.
For metro, QLD, NSW/ACT, VIC/Mildura, yes (AFAIK).
Seeing the remaining regional markets fully transition out of MPEG-2 would be a positive change. Though an upgrade to full HD might be out of reach.
I still wonder what will come of the supposed improvements to Racing.com they suggested a while back.
What are those ex-SCA Sevens like now? Obviously Seven Central is restricted by VAST capacity, but GTS/BKN and Tasmania could be aligned with metro.
Tassie as well already had that MPEG-4 switchover.
Today marks Seven being the first to go all MPEG4 for their channels in metropolitan areas. ![]()
Still hasn’t happened yet. What time does this usually happen?
It might happen at Midday as all the other changes before that have happened around that time.
Confirming that Seven Melbourne (channels 7 and 71) are now in MPEG4 HD.
The channel lineup:
I really don’t see why 71 is even a thing anymore
For comparison, Nine’s line-up is shocking
10 only has the remaining SD LCN
Don’t forget 10 also has LCN 1
Simulcast of 10HD at least
Agreed. They should have just dumped it today. And it’s time Nine cleaned up its mess.
