I’d guess there’s a smaller population to potentially impact, both in terms of viewer disastisfaction and in ratings (the race isn’t close for 10 anyway though). And an SD simulcast is an encoder that can be switched off to save money or allocated to another datacasting channel for extra revenue. A metro station can stomach the costs but not a regional.
Was the 10SD switch-off in ex-SCA areas something done before or after 10 purchased?

I can’t remember but if it was after they really have even less of an excuse

It was done on 1 May 2025 after the sale from SCA to 10 was complete on 1 March 2025.

The 10SD signals were switched off in the ex-SCA 3-agg regional TV markets beginning on 1st May 2025, 2 months after 10 took over operations of the said stations from SCA. Channels 5, 50 and 51, along with multichannels 10 comedy and 10 drama, are all now in MPEG-4 HD.

Too sensible, and you know it. But yes, totally agree.

This is more a case of an existing operator eventually hoarding all local ad revenue onto their main affiliate service, being WIN9. Will be interesting to see what happens when the WIN affiliation with TEN ends, and if it were to continue, possibly with no local ad inserts or switched off like Mildura, thereby leaving the WIN9 service being the only place local advertisers can book spots again. Back to the bad old days. Whereas if the whole of regional SA/Broken Hill was merged into the one TV1 aggregated licence area, that would at least bring back competition again for local ad buys.

But 7 is still going, 10 are done now. (Except for JVs)

Its great that 10 Comedy is now HD in the metros, just a shame they don’t always have HD versions of the shows.

“Friends” is on now, it was filmed and is available in HD, but looks upscaled SD on 10 Comedy.

SBS Food should go HD next, and hopefully all the imported food shows will have closed captions as well.

On that topic, I noted captions on Racing dot com recently which was surprising, but positive nonetheless for a datacast channel.

My Belmont North TV reception is pixelsting today. Usually solid at only about 5 kms away.

I’m still getting 10/10 signal strength and quality from both Sugarloaf and Central Coast.

Weather is very mild today, it’s possible Manly/Mosman and/or Kings Cross is interfering as they use the same UHF 28-33 channels, but are horizontal (Belmont North is vertical).

I would say you’re not getting that from Belmont North, might be from the Warners Bay translator, I’ve got a day off today & have no channels from Belmont North at all, they’ve been off since at least 10:30am this morning when I first noticed it. As you know, I’m about 1km from the Belmont North site & only have a low in height antenna pointing there, I can’t get the Mt Sugarloaf channels as they’re not strong enough with my antenna location & direction & there’s definitely no way Manly or Kings Cross would be interfering with Belmont North transmissions here.

EDIT: I’ve just spoken to the Engineering Manager at NBN TV & he said that there’s tower works going on at the Belmont North site today, all the channels should be back on by 3pm, they may be off again other days this week as well.

Thanks, yes, I just pointed my antenna west at Munibung Hill and reception is perfect.

I also tried it horizontal pointing south to see if any sign of Manly/Mosman or Kings Cross, and sadly nothing.

Figured I’d jump this over to the tech thread, so there’s two multiplexes in Griffith, on the AMN-30 frequency there’s the 9 network channels, and then on the MTN-29 frequency there’s the shared Seven and Ten multiplex.

So yeah, 7mate is also HD, probably the best pick of multichannels - especially given Griffith is in the grey area as far as NRL vs AFL, it probably would be a popular decision.

I wonder how these got swapped around ie. shouldn’t MTN really be carrying Nine not 7/10 as MTN was the main channel licence… Not that it really matters.

I would say they weren’t swapped back in the July 2021 affiliation swap.

Good to see WIN offering 7mate in HD. Seven must have specified this in their recent deal with WIN.

Are these names accurate? I’m glad if they are. The last time I checked they were using the Nine naming scheme for everything (10Bold, 7Mate, etc), which is still the case in WA on West Digital.
