7Bravo is HD in all markets and has been since launch.

Bravo is HD in areas with a Seven-owned and operated station. In some SCA and WIN areas the channel isn’t available.

Thanks.

Except Regional WA.

Hi,
Mentioned this a couple months ago, got the antenna. New problem has arose where the antenna (Antsig Indoor TV antenna), is plugged into the Blaupunkt Full HD Digital Set Top Box, however it keeps tuning/scanning for channels, appearing with none and then taking me back to the channel tuning screen and not letting me progress further, so I can’t actually use said device. I’m unsure if it’s an antenna thing or a set top box thing.
Happy to provide caps/photos if needed to help.

Mods, if this is the wrong thread - feel free to move it
Cheers.

This suggests that the indoor antenna isn’t working with the signal level too low to tune in channels. Might need to reposition the antenna as a first try. Do you think you are in a good signal area? Where is the antenna placed in relation to the TV stations? Near a window? Ground floor?

Indoor antennas can work fine in good signal area but otherwise …

The old tube TV as illustration is fair - I doubt many viewers could tell the difference between an older flat panel display of the mid-2000s and a newer one.

I think they could have phrased the voiceover better. I think there would be far fewer devices with standard definition-only tuners in use compared to HDTVs or STBs with MPEG-2 only decoding capability. If my supposition is correct, most viewers who they’re trying to reach with this advertising would miss out on the fact that their TVs are about to stop working.

Something like, “Check to see if your TV connected to an antenna is compatible by tuning to Channel 20. If you see an error message, you’ll soon need a new TV or a set top box to continue receiving ABC TV. Go to abc.net.au/hd-upgrade for more information,” would be a bit more helpful.

I agree, but in generalization the ABC is quite, lets just say behind the times.

Some of the other broadcast techs in here will well know this scene, still today at many transmission sites across Australia, these TV’s are used to monitor the ABC & SBS TV transmissions.

Ha Ha :joy: And I just realised that at the top of those metal boxes that house the TV’s, they have really old abc and SBS logos on them!

Yeah those Tandberg boxes are going to be very unhappy when it is completely H.264, the monitoring will have to be set to be only remaining MPEG2 channel so they don’t stay in program fail alarm

Talking of Tandberg, they dominated early Digital TV infrastructure in the early-2000s, along with Thomson.

First Gen Tandberg MPEG-2 encoders would fill an entire room at the TV station end before it was sent up to the transmitter via microwave link at 45 mbps (contained FEC stream).

Still new boxes of the kind in many places today under Erricson, who bought Tandberg in 2007. Particularly visible at satellite-fed sites, filled with Erricson receivers.

Still a stable of BA sites with ABC Radio services, and for monitoring on single TV sites

We still have a Tandberg sitting in a cupboard somewhere at work. Used to be used in an AM radio transmitter hut. More recently we’ve been using Harmonic Proview 7100s, but we don’t have them licensed to decode H.264, so they just turned around the mux into an IP stream for monitoring instead.

Btw, Harmonic bought Thomson, so you wouldn’t get any of those boxes these days. We had a couple of Harmonic EM2000 encoders that still had Thomson logos all over the web interface.

Just noticed 9now seems to have turned on surround sound on their streams. My Yamaha amp just turned on all the speakers when I turned on 9 news and you can hear the rear speakers during the sweepers etc. Normally says 2ch stereo on 9 now so I’d say its only come on today! You can see its 5.1 in the speaker graph on the right

Probably done to align with Origjn?

Never thought of that. Not my kind thing origin but I appreciate the efforts to stream in 5.1
