Why is there zero mention of 7flix being converted?

Because 7flix is already MPEG4 albeit in SD

The promo actually says “most of” Seven’s channels will be HD.

Getting it done before the 2032 Olympics… :expressionless_face:

When was this announcement made on-air? According to Google, the web announcement is two weeks old.

If they only gave a few days to half a month’s otice then it must have gone well in Adelaide, and if it goes as well in Perth then you could expect the rollout in the eastern states to speed up. Then again, if Adelaide was switched over 12 weeks ago then maybe the eastern states will start to switch over around the end of June?

I assume the rollout is also slow because of potential “my TV doesn’t work” enquiries. And since this rollout isn’t mandated, Seven won’t have any additional support for this switchover.

The question is when are they going to do Brisbane i wonder

It’s great news. But I suspect Seven will wait til after the AFL season to change transmission protocols in the eastern states. They wouldn’t want an outcry from anyone, however few, that they’d lost access to their precious AFL games. The press would have a field day.

If the analogue TV switchoff timeline is anything to go by, Brisbane will no doubt be next on the MPEG-4 upgrade list by May or June at least, then Sydney and Melbourne by Xmas, i.e: December of this year. Then consider the Seven Network’s O&O stations’ MPEG-4 upgrade complete across Australia.

Happening at Midnight tonight in Wa

What made you think the change was at midnight & your re-scan has probably jumped too early.

I can’t remember the exact times other places (regional & Adelaide) changed, but it was late morning into the afternoon.

NPC needs to have full technical staff on hand in case something goes wrong & the local Seven also needs full technical staff & support staff for viewer calls & that doesn’t happen overnight, they do it in the day also so people don’t wake up & turn the TV on & it doesn’t work so they miss the Sunrise show.

Try again later in the day, like after 9am local WA time, they definitely won’t make any changes other than emergency changes until after 9am local. Most network & transmission testing/changes are done after midday & before 4pm local times.

It was odd that their on air promos said “From Thursday” but the detail on their website posted above said “On April 30th”, so I suppose you’d deduce Midnight from that, even if it wouldn’t make sense logistically.

I think Perth will probably be okay here - 7Mate being MPEG-4 only for a while locking out a lot of AFL matches would probably have meant most receivers would have had motivation to work it out earlier.

Currently when you scan your TV
You get 7sd 70hd 71sd 72sd etc
With the upgrade will channels remain and new ones added,or will all of these all become Hd.

You will get 7HD on 7, 70 and 71 (all directed to the same stream - all the LCNs will stay)

7Two SD will be gone and replaced by 7Two HD

7 Sunshine Coast QLD regional example.

Surprising they haven’t chosen to drop 61/71.

It helps tuners maintaining the exact channel numbers and reduces need for retuning. Also useful to keep the channel numbers people are used to. Some may even have deleted 7 SD in favour of 70 and hidden 71 for example and if 70 and 71 disappeared it would be a problem.

I can’t confirm for other markets that have changed, but there’s no LCN 61 in Newcastle, it went with the change to MPEG 4.
