Digital Radio

Is there a reason why Fine Music seems to send a higher than normal resolution image of its logo?

A “normal” sized image for scale:

I think all of the Sydney DAB+ community stations which do slideshow images have that thing going on with their logo. I have no idea either.

christmas hope on air in brisbane at 48kbs.

No Melbourne ABC digital stations working this morning. Haven’t heard any explanation as to why.

Dig out your analogue radios, our digital signal is offline at the moment. We’re working to fix it ASAP #774Breakfast

It’s the streaming service that is off line rather than digital radio. ABC TV is also off. Cable has been cut.

Nope, 9C was definitely off air in Melbourne. No signal on any ABC station.

Yep, didn’t try them all, but 774, RN and JJJ all off but also not streaming. Messed a bit with my routine.

It was working in Brisbane. You could listen on DAB+ to hear the ABC discuss how streaming online was not working.

In the “while we weren’t paying attention” files, Hope 103.2 is now showing additional text (NOW/NEXT programing info & “Hope 1032 - There’s always Hope”) and slideshow images on it’s DAB+ broadcast here in Sydney:

Incase you were wondering, Hope thankfully do seem to have different images for different programs as you can see in this post on Gough’s Tech Zone.

Also, SBS Radio 1/2/3 are also now running slideshow images (presumably) again after quite some time off. These are likely to be exactly the same images SBS Radio was showing the last time they had DAB+ slideshow images on for 1/2/3 since the logo text hasn’t been updated to match the current SBS branding.

The four slides on SBS Radio 1 are almost exactly the same as those being shown on SBS Radio 2:

…but there are two different slides on 3:

The last Digital Radio report for the year has been released: http://www.radioitsalovething.com.au/RIALT/media/RIALT/PDF/GfK_DAB-Digital-Radio-Report-4-2016_v2.pdf

Coles Radio is the #1 DAB+ commercial station, followed by The 80s, Buddha, Easy Radio, The 90s, OldSkool Radio, Classic Rock Digital (it still made the Top 10, despite closing down on 1st October), Koffee, Edge Digital & Aussie. In Sydney, Coles Radio is #1, followed by Edge Digital & Koffee, whilst in Melbourne, Aussie is #1, followed by The 80s & The 90s. In Brisbane, Coles Radio is #1, followed by Buddha & Smooth. In Adelaide, The 90s is #1, followed by Triple M Modern Rock & Coles Radio, whilst in Perth, Smooth tops the list, followed by Classic Rock Digital & Buddha.

It’s good to see Aussie making the Top 10 DAB+ commercial stations list nationally, as well as topping the DAB+ ratings in Melbourne. It’ll be interesting to see in next year’s Digital Radio Report on whether Classic Rock Radio will make the Top 3 there.

Cumulative Audience, Mon-Sun 5:30am -12midnight, P10+, listening via DAB+, internet, mobile phone or tablet[/quote]
They need to add listening via in-store for Coles Radio!

We finally have word that DAB+ services in Canberra and Darwin will be made permanent in 2017.
Hobart is also due to get DAB+ in 2018.

Joan Warner said: “DAB+ is greener”. An AM crystal radio receiver needs no power. How can DAB+ beat that?

Hobart was supposed to get digital radio when it was rolled out in the other state capitals, so they’ll be getting it 9ish years after it was promised.

I guess that having multiple stations transmitted from one multiplex compares favourably to multiple AM/FM transmitters.

Yes, but as both the DAB+ and the analogue transmitters are running side by side at the moment the benefits of DAB+ being greener are not being realized.

Certainly not the full potential, but there are many digital only stations that don’t have an analogue counterpart.

2018 for Hobart? What a joke. Dab roll-out is occurring at a snails pace.

Marketing guff: ‘greener’. DTV resulted in ERP reduced to 1/4, not the same for radio.

CD quality sound has been debunked and this is the best Joan & co can come up with? Laughable.
