Digital Radio

My Canberra reappeared on digital radio and the streams sometime today. It’s unbelievable that it takes over three days to get it back online.

So you’ve never had the stream just stop inexplicably… and often? Happens all the time for me on iHeart. It just stops and you’ve got to hit play again. I can’t stand it.

I don’t have any problem with streaming services in the car. Great integration, easy to use, and great sound quality for select stations.

nope. Never.

Wow that’s great.

But judging by the huge amount of online help and forums on the topic of randomly stopping streaming I don’t think I’m alone.

For instance if you Google “my iHeart (or other) streaming radio just stops…”. There’s a lot.

Definitely surprising that Hit Romeo hasn’t been chosen. I’m sure that the Capulets would love it though.

But given that you’d think a love based station would probably fall under Hit’s demographic a bit more, despite the “rock song dedications”, it makes for a strange choice.

I would think it would be Hit Juliet rather than Romeo.

That’s a bad name for a radio station.

I know!

But really any such name that starts with Hit is probably going against Domestic Violence awareness.

Would it be for those streaming Australian stations? I stream US ones and have never had a dropout.

I’m streaming a US one right now and it’s dropping out all the time. Same thing on the Absolute radio app from the UK. Some days it’s ok, other days it drops out constantly.

It was a joke.

Wonder if they’ll go for the Nova tie-in: Nova Chilled?

How are they returning? Does Nova have the bandwidth?

If anything it’ll be known as Smooth Chill.

I don’t know about the other cities, but Nova 96.9’s DAB+ channel here in Sydney is 112kbps. I presume that will go back down to 64kbps.

According to this link, the same goes for Nova 100’s DAB+ channel in Melbourne. In Brisbane, Nova 106.9’s DAB+ channel is at 64kpbs.

Do they need to simulcast the Main FM stations on DAB+ as well? That takes up bandwidth by doing that?

Yes, they have to.

I’m pleased that the FM stations are simulcast on DAB.

It makes it a more holistic service, all the main AM/FM stations in the one spot, and most in stereo (including those that are simulcast on AM in mono).
