But Geelong does have own community radio stations, in The Pulse 94.7 and 96three
According to the Australian Financial Review, EON Sports Radio will be the only Australian radio broadcaster of live English Premier League matches, relaying TalkSportās radio coverage. This could affect ABC NewsRadio which broadcasts BBC World Serviceās Sportsworld on early Sunday mornings, as the program airs the second half of a Saturday match of the day live every week during the EPL season. If the ABC is banned from relaying BBCās partial live radio coverage, EPL fans in regional areas could miss out altogether.
EON has also struck deals to broadcast five A-League matches per round, live Socceroos games, three National Basketball League matches per week and 12 English FA Cup games.
Some community radio stations broadcast the BBC World Service overnight, eg 2RPH, so they may also be affected?
EON Sports Radio is on air (live) from 12:30pm tomorrow AEST.
went live at 12:25 with Bianca Chatfield and Jack Heverin. jack is now interviewing Glen Wheatley.
EON Sports has been bumped up to 32kbits in Melbourne, with The Edge down to 32kbits.
This makes the ARN multiplex in Melbourne read:
Gold1043 - 48kbits
KIIS - 48kbits
CW Remix - 32kbits
The 80s - 32kbits
The 90s - 32kbits
The Edge - 32kbits
EONSport - 32kbits
By my calculations, this setup also fits their bandwidth allocations in Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide.
Can anyone confirm if this is the same in other cities? Particularly interested in what ARN have got on DAB+ in Perth.
Yep, ARN are running similar bitrate allocations for their Sydney stations. The two main FM stations on 48kbps, the others (including The Edge) on 32kbps.
Looks to match Brisbane as well.
I have found it is a lot quicker to listen to Eon via I heart radio as the actual Eon act takes a very long time to loadā¦
Some trademark games between EON Sports and Southern Cross Austereo? SCA lodged a trademark application for EON on 6 June 2016, EON Sports applied for their own trademark on 6 Jul, then SCA withdrew their application on 21 Jul.
EON Sports Radio will have to improve 100% to survive! They only have their own programming from 6a.m until 7pm. Then they have Talk Sport from the UK. I have listened to Talk Sport on PC for EPL news but I think EON will have to cut out the UK traffic reports and ads. Just doesnāt sound right. I know yesterday was their first day but the presentation was very amateurish!
EON Sports Radioās current line-up (AEST):
6am-10am: The Morning Rush with Jack Heverin and Bianca Chatfield
10am-11am: EON Sports News with Darren Parkin
11am-3pm: The Lunch Box with Dan Lonergan (ex-ABC)
3pm-7pm: The Home Turn with Cam Luke and Richie Callander
7pm-6am: relay from TalkSport UK
Former ARN newsreader Emily Hoskins reads bulletins every 30 minutes.
EONās first live sport broadcast will be the International Champions Cup clash between Melbourne Victory and Juventus from the MCG this Saturday night (kick off 7pm AEST).
How long will these live EON announcers last?
Is there really that much investment in DAB?
Given that I hadnāt heard of this stations existence until yesterday, plus the fact that itās digital only means it probably will last until the next John Farnham comeback tourā¦
LOL, thereās obviously next to no advertising budget!
Letās hope none of them has taken out a new mortgage
Still no live Sportsday.
Looks like I will be listening to 3CS for it.
It sounds like a VERY EXPENSIVE exercise to have 13 hours of local sport programming on a DAB+ only platform.
I canāt see it paying its way on this model.
Plus, ABC Grandstand Digital probably has most of the audience thatās available. I donāt see radio coverage of EPL being a big draw.
