Anything under 64k hurts my ears!

40 or 48kbps can sound as good or better than some of the FM stations. 32 is standard but can still sound decent as Coles and CADA (for example) have shown.

You should try Coles CBD and Tas in Brisbane

They aren’t even in stereo, are they?

Nope and sound like complete arse. I do believe they are there for some sort of APRA fee dodge or something, or so I have heard

Thanks, and I thought DAB stations were exempt from APRA royalties in any case because they were considered “experimental”?

I thought it was that if something was broadcast on radio it meant lower royalties what was played in-store.

Looks like they are using HE-AAC v1 as well, at that bit rate they should be using HE-AAC v2, but being mono & such a low bit rate probably wouldn’t make much difference to the quality sound.

Toggo (A kids band in Germany from RTL) released a customize your own DAB+ radio offer (Now ended) which I thought was a great idea for engaging young listener with radio.

You can still design your DAB+ radio from other brands here Design Dein Radio - für mehr Farbe in deinem Leben (design-dein-radio.de)

This led me to wonder if any band in Australia had ever launched any custom DAB+ radios?

In Brisbane Easy 80’s Hits has become Oldskool 80’s and a new station Easy Hits has popped up. Not sure if it’s an extra or it’s replaced something.

On GC there was just a changer in name. Looks like an extra station in Brisbane.

That’s good news actually. Easy 80s Hits was pretty bland. Hopefully Easy Hits is better.

Easy Hits seems to be a mix of New-ish songs and other easy listening songs from the 80s-90s. Somewhat similar to The Breeze, but Easy Hits seems a bit safer than them.

On the other hand, Oldskool 80’s is heaps better than Easy 80’s, being less safe with their music choices.

Michael Gudinski was not the “good bloke” he’s been lionised as after death. Absolutely ridiculous to see ongoing tributes to Gudinski and Mushroom.

Old Skool 80s is on Sydney DAB+ too … 32 kbps of course… hoping it’ll have a broad spread of 80s songs with some rarer stuff… having a listen right now.

Easy 80s also gone.

If I can recall the mux software won’t allow v2 below 24kbps.

There is no easy hits on DAB+ in Melbourne
