Are the bitrates on Listnr any better though? They’re never usually any higher than 48 kbps, even less on mobile.

Yeah good question. Should be higher than 32k.

Not yet. Maybe it’ll pop up on the 9B multiplex later…

WSFM 80s & KIIS 90s have already cut their bitrates to 32k to make way for the incoming MTV Sounds DAB+ station.

Curses, I feared they would do this.

Looking at the wayback machine you can see the difference of the benefits if DAB the use to promote back in 2015 vs today. I am sure they did have “CD quality” but that may have been earlier.

DAB never had CD quality right from the start, they claimed it but never actually did have it, it’s always never been better than FM quality, there was many complaints about that so they eventually dropped that statement, yes DAB+ could have CD quality, but not the way they want to use it in Australia.

That “No Drain on Battery Life” one in 2015 is a doozy, DAB+ sucks the life out of a battery like there’s no tomorrow, over AM or FM use.

I think they are comparing it to smart phone streaming battery life, not necessarily AM/FM battery life.

My old iPhone I was using in 2015 was terrible with battery usage when streaming over 3G/4G . Also back then I also didn’t have enough data for regular radio streaming anyway. So back then I did use a Sangean handheld DAB+ radio primarily for battery and data usage reasons.

These days though with a newer iPhone with better battery life and much more data on my phone plan I rarely use my old Sangean handheld DAB+ radio now.

MTV Sounds on air now in Sydney on DAB+.

They are doing a countdown of 80s songs.

Sounds good, I’ll have to give it a listen later tonight.

The sound quality is not too bad for 32KBs. Not Coles standard, but better than TikTok.

I am listening now. Good songs but it is a wsfm countdown 80s countdown.

So with WSFM branding, and not MYV branding?

If so. I wonder if other states are getting local branding on it.

No, it doesn’t have WSFM branding, but the songs are pretty much the same.

It is being programmed by ARN so of course the log will be similar to the 80s heard on WSFM/Gold.

No WSFM branding, just WSFM songs  .

Actually the songs are better than on WSFM. Whoever is programming this countdown is doing a great job. It’s playing 80s songs you don’t normally hear on the radio.

Or in Brisbane, FM 104 80s.

Perhaps EON FM 80s if there was the brand recall for it too.

Complete with the original FM104/EON airchecks. That would be an awesome listen. But I’m not sure if it’s possible due to rights restrictions.
