It was the same on the stream on the app.

Fixed now.

Melbourne silence issue still there though.

That also played on the ‘SEN Sydney’ station on Melbourne DAB.

Well SCA has no space in Perth (can you actually go lower than 32 kbps?), they would have to cannibalise Hit Buddha as they seem to have done in Canberra, hopefully not!

Do we have the full complement of ARN stations in Perth? 96fm 90s converted to CW Remix, so 96fm 90s may come back or something else (Edge Digital now that X Digital disappeared and Hit is a bit Mix’d?)

Australia today now on in Brisbane too

In Canberra the name of Australia Today has changed back to HIT Buddha, with the scrolling text ‘Australia Today with Steve Price’, but there is no sound.

The Test channel with the tone is now called Elf Radio.

Edit: Australia Today is now back with sound, with Hit Buddha gone again. And the Test channel is called Test again.

Not all at once, no. Edge Digital, 90’s aren’t here at the moment, and for a while we missed out on 80’s and CW (not that anyone ‘missed’ that!)

The fact they haven’t quickly slotted one of those back in kind of leads me to think they’ve sold the space to someone else, but they’re not quite ready.

How is the 80s station branded there?

e.g… as 96FM 80s?

Yep, on air and on the station text. They carry 96FM promos too.

There was mention of SEN radio (when all were surprised with NICHE radio appearing). I assume it would be an extension of SEN Peel to SEN Perth?

EDIT: I am sure of it! Just dug this up from SEN WA site from today:
“All shows will be heard across SENTrack 657AM in Perth, SEN Spirit 621AM Southwest, SEN Peel on DAB+ in Mandurah, and the SEN WA channel on the SEN app.”
Didn’t even realise they were using 657AM vacated by Niche Radio when they disappeared a year ago.

Yeah sounds like SEN Perth is going to be a thing, especially since they have WAFL and Eagles and Dockers AFL rights, plus Adam Gilchrist on their breakfast now. Can’t see them spending all that dough to stay on the fringes of the AM band.

Especially if they are using the same transmitters as Niche Radio which couldn’t be heard at all south of Perth CBD on 657 (AM propagation is the pits here in Perth, that is why 1080 6iX requires FM repeaters in Rockingham and Wanneroo).

2CH remained on during those difficulties @Radiohead? What’s was its status?

Yeah, 2CH seemed to be running as it should while SEN was off air (or running that weird placeholder loop) on Wednesday night.

Australia Today: station content

Price presents a program live on the digital station weekdays 7am - 10am. It is then looped throughout the day with current news updates inserted I guess until 6pm or so.

15 hours of content for a station more or less.

That’s spreading it far too thin.

Why not run replays of talkback such as Luke Bona’s five and half hour slab of talk content?

Unless SCA have plans on adding to Australia Today with more original talk content, I don’t see a compelling reason for audience to tune in, let alone see a good result in cume figures.

It could be Alan Jones or John Laws in their heydays (or Melb’s Neil Mitchell) and repeating their content another six or seven times across the day isn’t going to have many fans hanging off their every word.

A funny observation of Price back doing a talk radio concept is when he reads the program’s phone number, a ten digit 1300 number.

He’s begun more than a few times with his old numbers from 3AW or 2GB.

so I was listening in the car last night and i suspect this is the intended audience. i don’t think it is intended to be a show you listen to end to end to, but rather dip in and out, and the replays on DAB work well for this.

What a waste, at least in Canberra. Almost makes you want to hit Buddha in frustration.

The first expansion SCA should do with Australia Today on digital radio is to precede it with Your Morning Agenda, I think. And expand it to 30 mins so it starts on digital radio at 6:30am.

I have been listening to show a bit. Its not bad. I think Steve has more freedom than he did on 2GB. The problem with 2GB I felt like they have “Talking lifestyle” segments which they must include. Almost like music stations where the announcer can’t pick the music. I feel that this is the direction of talk radio. He should start at 6:30 am instead of 7am.
