Did They Really Just Play That?

96.5 Wave FM and i98fm just played “Self Esteem” by The Offspring at the exact same time, however they were playing different parts of the song. i98fm was slightly ahead.

And so did 94.9 Power FM, who now share the same log as Wave FM, though not necessarily at the exact same time.

No, Power FM was airing commercials at the time the song was playing on both Wave and i98fm. I have it recorded.

There might be a time all 3 stations play the same song! I wonder if that has happened before in any market?

I remember a time a few months ago when Ultra106Five and 7HOFM in Hobart played the exact same song, every 2nd/3rd song for about 20 minutes… In the middle of the night!

I didn’t think Ultra would have had much music overlap with 7HO with them being a Christian station?

Ultra is 60% mainstream secular music

Thanks, I had not heard the term “secular music” before.
So I looked it up and learnt something new today

Secular=non religious (generally). And yes, Ultra, Light Melbourne, Pulse 94.1 Wollongong, and Sonshine Perth are basically lite AC/CCM hybrids now.

With Rhema and Vision at least you get what they print on their tins- Christian programming and teaching, befitting their community of interest.

Give It Away by local artist Genes is a song that shouldn’t have escaped from the Triple J Unearthed realm and is currently playing on SCA Hit stations nation-wide.

Why should it not have?

It’s very pop.

Genes is the alter-ego of Maddy Rowe, who presents the networked daytime shift on the Hit Network regional stations out of Townsville.

As a rule of thumb, triple j has somewhat of a bias against pop - less so on Unearthed - which is a shame because of how big the alternative/non-mainstream pop catalogue is

That must’ve been a real hoot on inglorious AM mono.

I can see what they were trying with it, despite the pop and autotune, it’s a soft/slow burn song. That said, it’s way out of format what should be a quality classic hits music format with some modern AC.

Where is this log scheduled from and by who?

The Maddy Rowe song is ok, good to add to quota, talking point within the network.

More evidence of SCA trying to support Triple J Unearthed, but not in a “self-promotion” way.

Dominos by Northeast Party House played on Hit Dance yesterday, likely because they didn’t have enough songs to fill out a dance station and digged something recent from there to play. I think they should start a Triple J Unearthed clone with a “Get your song played on your favourite radio station” promise!

Commercial radio has used triple j for ages. Think about the popular Australian acts at the moment; most of them started with exposure on triple j.

None of the CHR brands are immune to this. It was a running joke for a time that Nova’s playlist would add 6-12 month old indie/alternative tracks about a week or two after the Hottest 100 had gone to air.

For SCA, where their biggest footprints are regional markets where triple j rates highly, it makes sense to schedule songs (on both Hit and Triple M where appropriate) that overlap with that station.

But they won’t now it’s a cut and paste playlist across all markets. All markets should train a MD to schedule what’s appropriate.

Forgot to mention this classic from 2EAR FM the other week:

Everything’s On Fire- HUNTERS+ COLLECTORS

The presenter’s 2EARs were tone deaf on this occasion.
