In another episode of the Regional version of Triple M’s shenanigans, i heard “Absolutely Everybody” by Vanessa Amorosi via Triple M Newcastle not too long ago, Not against her music but a song i haven’t heard on mainstream radio for a long time, brownie points for the Regional MMMs shenanigans!
We almost need a thread exclusively titled 'Silly Shenanigans the Regional MMMs do" /s
It shouldn’t be that surprising anymore given it appears to be a change in format that has now been established.
Not like the old metro “You Never Know What We’ll Play Next” Jack FM format from 20 years ago, where they’d play eg. Slim Dusty and Silverchair.
GOLD and KIIS Sydney both played N Sync songs at the same time today (“Bye Bye Bye” and “It’s Gonna Be Me” respectively).
So N Sync and out of sync at the same time.
If I didn’t know better I’d say I was listening to Hit. Even the phone number is the Hit phone number.
What is going on at MMM Regional?
Voice break on MMM Mid North Coast: https://www.instagram.com/p/DYyGPc1BbZS/?hl=en
If you listen carefully at the start, the ID on air says HIT.
Just a studio swap by the looks of it.
Video of a Hit workday announcer executing a Hit tactic, into a Hit song… yep, must be being broadcast on Triple M!
You’re the Voice - John Farnham.
Nova 100.
It was played as the first song on the Maddy Rowe Aus Music Show to mark the announcement of the Farnham tribute show. But still…
To be fair, there are some questionable choices of music that is played on Nova these days.
There was a reason why, in its infancy, their slogan was “Sounds Different” - it was because they frequently played songs that other stations didn’t.
But even back then, very little of the unique songs they played would have been older 70s/80s tracks, much more likely to have been newer songs that 2Day or FOX etc didn’t (KIIS wasn’t around back then).
2NUR going all Triple M and playing Alanis “Ironic” this afternoon.
Nova were good when they first started ,here in Brisbane
2NUR FM on Saturday nights usually go full “Triple M” with their party mix as I did hear AC/DC’s “You Shook me all night long” and “Long Way to the Top” a few weeks ago on that station.
Just after 9:30am on smoothfm this morning: “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley
Another song I’d never previously heard on this station before. I don’t have anything against it though.
Heard on Triple J this morning
Barbie Girl - Aqua
Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised about anything they play anymore?!
Heard just right now on 2NUR FM Newcastle 103.7
Faith No More’s cover of The Commodore’s “Easy.”
Most of the time the station usually plays The Commodore’s OG version but hearing FNM’s cover (a legendary Alt Rock band’s cover from their re-release of their magnum opus album “Angel Dust”) seems kind of unorthodox on one of the innocent easy listening stations. Have no hate for their cover though as that song is also usually overplayed fodder on the Triple M stations.
Well, it turns out not even the legendary ‘The Conga Line’ is safe from this thread!
Heard today:
Man I Need - Olivia Dean
But good on you @dxnerd for acknowledging it was a bit out of format for your show and explaining the reasoning for it - and fair enough too!
Ha, I should really feature in this thread every week ![]()
To be fair, it’s a great song, and it will likely stand the test of time much better than most of today’s top 40…
Beat It - Michael Jackson on Nova 100 this morning!
