Did They Really Just Play That?

All Saints. Never Ever. MMM regional

I’ve heard of the Triple M Regionals cross contaminating with the HIT Network before but this is ridiculous! What’s next, the regionals playing Britney Spears later this week?

The regionals should never have taken on the Triple M brand. They should have rolled out Heart instead.

The only times I heard ABBA on Triple M were on the D-Generation Breakfast Show in the early nineties, and more recently on Mick Molloy’s drive time show. I am sure they are taking the p–s out of it. It also appeared on one of their “top 1000” countdowns.

I don’t think they really needed to rollout a generic brand as such at all.

What they were doing up to 2016 was just fine… eg. “This is the Mid North Coast’s 2MC FM, part of the Triple M Network” for sweepers.

Football calls and networked shows could just use Triple M and local shifts and IDs could just use eg 2MC FM with the “part of the Triple M network” being added in occasionally.

Triple M Melbourne played Adele - Rolling in the Deep . Just after 8am on Mick in the Morning.

They played that on “Nights With Dave Gleeson” a few weeks ago.

Might as well play Madonna if they’re going to play Adele.

Almost anything is better than when they were IDing as “the local you know”, you know, the one we can’t name because this isn’t local.

I just looked at their playlist between 5AM to 1PM on Lava and that playlist is horrible. They even played Lady Gaga, The Edge of Glory.

I shudder to think, but have they kept up the metro playlist during Lu & Jarch and The Rush Hour? Total whiplash if so.

Apparently yes…I happened to listen to Lu and Jarch on my commute home from the gym and they were playing “Tomorrow” by Silverchair which is usually a played track on the Sydney/Melbourne playlist.

Oh and just before 9…I heard “Haven’t met You Yet” by Michael Buble of all artists via Triple M Newcastle 102.9, so yes they have gone to the playlists from early 2022-2023 when the regionals were taking the “Female Friendly” skewed approach (Pre-HEART) too seriously after going mainstream rock during Covid.

It reminds me of the Feel Good era, just before 2020. The Feel Good format was a full on Female skew format, similar to what it is now.

Missed the best one just after 10am

Wrong thread, cheers

Continuing on from Triple M’ Regionals’ new playlist is Adele’s “Hello” which is another song that MMM Regionals have played rather than “Rolling in the Deep” and “Set Fire to the Rain.”

There’s a brand for the regionals
Total Whiplash: You never know what you’ll hear next… and neither do we!

They might have to bring Barry the Monkey out of retirement.

Coolio and Mary Mary in this hour.

Loving the RnB additions. Sounds really interesting next to 5x 80s and 1x 70s in the hour clocks.

“Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” by Backstreet Boys and “Better the Devil You Know” from Kylie Minogue later in the day was a nice surprise too.

Just on Triple M Newcastle now

Too Sweet - Hozier

This is perhaps the most recent song I’ve heard on the regional version of Triple M post 2021 following their refresh of their playlist.
