Did They Really Just Play That?

To be fair, it’s a banger of a song . I never get sick of that one.

On Triple M 80s via LiSTNR right about now.

Right artist from the 80s decade but…wrong song as this song was from 1992, three years after the decade ended and the same year the 80s officially died all thanks to Grunge.

2NUR just now (Earthroulette, you guessed it, landed me in NSW’s second city today).

A bit of a daggy almost ‘Wrong Song’ that I haven’t heard anywhere except for Crap From The Past.

2NUR’s format is great though, slick announcers, the whole package.

1.51pm on KIIS 97.3FM, Run to Paradise - Choirboys.
This is just straight up a Triple M track.
Interesting selection

And playing now on SWR 99.9 ‘In Phase’

Holly Holy - Neil Diamond (1969)

I’ve never known them to play songs like this! Always thought it was more of an 80s retro type show.. not playing 60s stuff like Neil Diamond.

This is Vinyl Shop Valves, so a more eclectic playlist than usual

I’m sure I heard the announcer say it was InPhase, it was after 4pm yesterday, the usual time, or has that all been changed now?

Yes, still Inphase but he’s doing all vinyl for the rest of the year (at least), calling it ‘Vinyl Shop Valves’. Let’s just say it’s Vinyl Shop Valves brought to you by Inphase (a bit like how it is with Pakistan cricket…Idea Cup powered by Bank Alfalah or similar),

Thanks, yes there was a lot of technical talk about valves and pre-amps and what needles he used on each turntable etc.

Interesting to hear, but some LPs had a lot of crackle and pop, probably a bit too much for my ears. I’m sure a lot of listeners would have thought they were getting interference or something!

The show is unashamedly for radio nerds so I doubt many would care

More for audiophiles than radio nerds I think.

Whilst I’m radio nerd-ish, I still prefer CDs over vinyl.

But each to their own of course.

The two often go hand in hand.

I use Sunday as my day to catch up on certain shows; there isn’t much going on Sundays on community radio I’ve noticed.

Johnny Cash on Triple M during the “Classic 9 At 9” tonight.

Haven’t heard them play him before.

Edit: Classic 9 At 9 Theme was songs produced by Rick Rubin

And another from the “Classic 9 at 9”…

Adele!! Weird hearing it on Triple M Sydney, couldn’t cap that one since they haven’t been running Song info RDS for quite a while m now.

They should’ve used Linkin Park’s cover of RITD instead.

Just heard “Love at First Sight” by Kylie Minogue on Triple M 102.9 Newcastle as part of the April Fools themed “Double shot Tuesday” with the previous song being World Party’s “Ship of Fools” since Kylie is headlining this year’s AFL Grand Final. Surely this is one of the extremely rare instances where the Regionals have played Kylie outside of “Where the Wild Roses Grow” which is her collab with Nick Cave since that is the most appropriate song for the MMMs to play.

Also weird that April Fools isn’t until tomorrow…

Should’ve aired Double Shot Tuesday tomorrow instead. Would’ve been a cleverer gag.

Even more amazing it wasn’t “So Much For Love” or even “Inspiration”, their other, and only minor hit here.

Nothing against the Backstreet Boys, but at 8:42am on Nova 93.7 this morning I heard “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” on my commute into the Perth CBD.

Such a timeless classic.
