The list of potential candidates that has been around for the last 12 months or so suggests we’ll end up with someone more conservative (and possibly someone from outside of Europe)

It was widely expected that it was going to happen as a matter of course

I’m sure the European correspondents are on the way to Rome as we speak to cover the news.
