Deal or No Deal

I thought the pieces of a good 6pm game are there but I think a few screws need to be tightend to make a better produced show - it ended too suddenly and where’s the big novelty cheque.

Also some of the music and sound effects were lacking.

I’ll stick with it as a news alternative, but I hope that my picky issues are just early issues fixed in episodes yet too be produced.

Set looks fine, music and sound effects are a complete miss.

Nothing against Grant, but O’Keefe really nailed and owned this role.

I caught the final portion of it.
I agree, music and sound effects are terrible. Set looks good.
It all seemed super shouty.

Was there any interaction with the banker?

Way too much energy for me at this time.

Why do all shows these days have to be so over-edited? They over shoot content and then have to trim things down. The end product just looks so amateur.

Deal or No Deal would be one example of a game show that could easily be recorded “as live” - I don’t know why they don’t produce more shows this way.

By record “as live” I mean they keep the mistakes as if it was playing out live. One take, keep the illusion that anything can happen.

One repetitive “Boats, Beers and Pies” chant is hardly funny or compelling television.

I would have pitched this to Tim McDonald and allowed him to take the absolute piss out of the format. Grant is heading into Daryl Somers territory of annoying.

Not a fan and had a first and last look but way better and a REAL host as opposed to Tipping Point!

This. I got through the episode but bloody difficult. Andrew got a bit much towards the end of his tenure but I don’t him being this bad

I do think the format has been off air long enough to draw people in again, but when it’s in the worst time slot on the most forgotten network, I just can’t see it surviving

I reckon it’ll be axed by the end of the year. Ten have gone through 3 other game shows between 2014 and 2020 and they’ve failed because they compete against Seven and Nine News. Family Feud however lasted 4 years.

Ten should’ve changed their 5:30-8:00pm lineup back in 2014 when they launched Family Feud.

5:30pm Family Feud
6:00pm Ten News
7:00pm The Project

Watched ep1, it was fine but really cringe with the shouting of “Bali, Boat & Pies” all the times & a little bit too shouty

Just catching-up on 10 Play now, after watching the first 40min of TP and the last 20min of Chase doubles.

How close to home  Rosebud Primary’s assistant principal on the Peninsula! Yes, she is a bit too jolly, but matches Grant’s high energy.

Enjoying Deal’s return, maybe just because I was a fan back during the original 2000s run and am easily pleased, at least the core basics are there, deifnitely freshened up the set, graphics and music which I guess had to be done. Not sure about the producing though, seems way too fast, perhaps not helped by the 30min air time with ads, as well as the banter feeling a bit forced and OTT and the camera on them seems too close up compared to the previous more frequent wider shots and larger studio. And I’ve noticed the people holding the cases seem too much in the background compared to the last and are too darkly lit.

What a great summary!!

They reduced to 22 cases from 26 to slow it down more and allow for more of Grant being silly. Bad idea. People like the sense of urgency in game shows. That’s why the Chase is so successful. It’s fast paced.

Millionaire Hot Seat to me felt slow paced and tired and was giving Nine News a poor lead in which is why they axed it and replaced it with Tipping Point.

Watched the 1st episode on 10 Play and the amount of money you win for guessing correctly what you have in your case has been reduced to $250. $1,000 was a reasonable cash price for a correct guess in 2004 and 2005.

Amazed they can even find audience numbers for these shows. How are the main contestants selected these days? Via an agency or something?

by posting online and in facebook groups.

I just caught up on 10 play, and I didn’t hate it as much as I thought I would. I can’t compare it to the original, but I thought for the most part it was fine.

Grant is obviously very OTT, but that’s just him. I’m sure with settling into the role a bit more that might tone down a little.

I can see why this might be okay for 6pm.

I enjoy their rivalry and the comments Larry makes about Grant on The Chase are funny.

I just caught up on it too - I definitely enjoyed it more than I thought too. A bit shouty but thats just the nature of the show. Very similar fun vibe to Family Feud with Grant.

I had a look at it on 10 Play expecting an absolute disaster but honestly it isn’t that bad. It seems fun and watchable and so far (8 minutes in) the editing of it is hardly noticeable.

You must be a very hard person to please.

If you think about it all episodes would be predictable because it runs for 30 mins? So the person is gonna take the deal a few mins before 6.30. Im sorry but I find it boring all you do it open cases and get a deal.

It’s 2024 Channel 10, come up with something different and not old from another network!
