Dancing with the Stars

Seven confirmed just then again “Dancing with the Stars All stars”

And if it doesn’t rate as hoped, and isn’t renewed after 2021, then it’s a nice way to wrap things ups

Like I said. Seven don’t see this as a tent pole program, it’s more to fill a gap within their schedule next year. I’m expecting it to go for maybe 6-8 shows only. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s pre recorded in advance.

I think it’s a great idea and they can even prerecord it now. Air it multiple times a week even. It will probably rate well on 7.

Well I suppose this is sort of official

All stars hit the dancefloor

Dancing With The Stars: All Stars spins onto Seven in 2021.

The Seven Network today announced it has commissioned a new “all stars” event version of Dancing With The Stars from Warner Bros International TV Production Australia and BBC Studios.

In a world first, the global sensation will be refreshed, reimagined and reborn as a unique television event – Dancing With The Stars: All Stars .

The special event will run on Channel 7 and 7plus in 2021 and feature some of the most popular, talented and entertaining stars from the iconic show over the years. Fan favourites will return to the dancefloor – along with flashbacks to their former hits and misses – and expect a few wildcards to shake things up.

The hosts, judges and contestants of the spectacular Dancing With The Stars: All Stars will be announced soon.

Seven’s Network Programming Director, Angus Ross, said: “ Dancing With The Stars is one of the most successful television formats in the world. It was a massive hit for us across 15 seasons and we are delighted to welcome it home.

“This will be no ordinary Dancing With The Stars . It will be new, fast and highly engaging three-week event – and the perfect addition to our 2021 line-up.

“Next year’s special season will bring back some of the big names and personalities from seasons past in a brand new format, plus several other surprises that we will reveal shortly,” he said.

“In 2020, we launched three new tentpole shows – Big Brother , Farmer Wants A Wife and SAS Australia – that were hits across all screens. All three will be back in 2021, along with our latest sensation, Holey Moley , a reimagined The Voice and Ultimate Tag . We are very excited to add Dancing With The Stars: All Stars to that list.”

Warner Bros. Managing Director, Michael Brooks, said: “We are incredibly excited to relaunch Dancing With The Stars on Seven in 2021. This blockbuster event will be must- watch television for all Dancing With The Stars fans featuring their favourite celebrities, a host of surprises, unbelievable performances along with all the usual tears and laughter the ballroom has to offer.

“We are thrilled to continue our successful partnership with BBC Studios and the Seven Network.”

BBC Studios ANZ Director of Production, Kylie Washington, said: “Dancing With The Stars is an iconic format that just keeps getting bigger and better. This new All Stars version will ensure that it cha-chas back onto Seven in spectacular style. We can’t wait to see the audience reaction to their favourite dancers battling it out for the ultimate mirror ball trophy.”

Dancing With The Stars: All Stars is produced by Warner Bros International Television Production Australia and BBC Studios, from a format created by the BBC and distributed by BBC Studios.

According to TV Blackbox, that’s exactly what will happen.

The website is also reporting that the ‘all star’ contestants will only consist of those who participated in the series when it originally aired on Seven

You think they will get Hemsworth back? Prob couldn’t even get Rob Palmer back after the way they treated him

That means the judges alone will decide which couple will be eliminated each week.

Unless they get a studio audience as well.

Missed opportunity calling it “Dancing with the All-Stars”

Sounds like it will be produced out of Melbourne again. It will be interesting if the show reverts to their traditional home at South Melbourne or go across town to Docklands where I’m assuming the former set could easily be reinstalled from the 10 series. (Assuming it’s in storage)

At 18 season this means that DWTS will maintain its record for most seasons for a reality show. If it didn’t air, The Block would match the record in 2021 and be the new record holder in 2022.

It makes sense to grab it. They’ll have their scheduled worked out for next year and have identified a gap somewhere for a month or so. You’d expect this will rate better than repeats of factuals or whatever else they might have had in the cupboard to plug the gap.

Agreed. Don’t the FTA commercial networks realise that these long running reality shows at the expense of all other genres are a significant reason why people are moving away from them in favour of Netflix and the like?!

Shouldn’t that time be now? Yes, there are a lot of restrictions at the moment but those can also be used to the advantage of smart program creators.

Dancing With The Stars is not what I’d call a format which really suits the current environment when we’re being encouraged to practice social distancing!

With the Australian, British and American versions all suffering from coronavirus impacts, you’d think all the networks would wary of the format and give it a rest next year.

It feels like Seven is buying up the formats of all the reality shows so no other network can make them. It’s almost like the old days where they’d pay stars to join networks but warehouse them or keep the rights to game shows so other networks would run a competition show.

Looks like I won’t be giving my time to much free to air commercial viewing next year.

Apart from restrictions I would’ve thought establishing a new format would be more expensive. But I’m not in the biz.

I guess though that why this ‘all stars’ edition will be pre-recorded so that the series can be filmed in a short bubble (say 2 or 3 weeks)

Hmmm I’m a bit skeptical of the way they are doing this series. Firstly this show is a weekly show and to rush through it in 3 weeks and in 6-8 shows suggests to me they want to strip it which wouldn’t work. Secondly they’re doing an all-star version of a celebrity show which just goes against the point.

I honestly hope they don’t ever consider having Daryl Somers or Shane Bourne as hosts. They were dreadful and Seven would be better off with in-house talents who are much more likeable, and when I say that I don’t mean Sonia Kruger.

Emdur and Gillies would be perfect. They are both underutilized at Seven.

Larry and Kylie are excellent hosts who were wasted on Celebrity Splash back in 2013. This show is perfect for them.

Maybe their stint on Carols in the Domain is a sign of things to come…

I hope they’re not talking about the likes of Sam Armytage or Pauline Hanson.
