And it boosts his profile significantly worldwide
I thought Robert was fantastic on DWTS but would’ve he have won if he wasn’t Steve Irwin’s son? I recall before Steve passed away that he was hugely popular in US and many people thought ‘crikey’ etc was part of our vernacular but he wasn’t as popular in Australia because people thought he was too over the top.
Also if it wasn’t for Steve’s popularity would Robert have been allowed to bring his mother and sister on stage for two very emotional routines, not to mention the comments about Steve throughout? I’m not trying to be nasty here because his dancing was amazing.
The feelings about Steve Irwin are similar in a way to Princess Diana. In Australia a lot of people didn’t really like him until he passed away. With Diana a lot of people had turned against her (more so in the UK) but immediately after her death everyone adored her. I have one of the trashy magazines from back then. Obviously they are always printed in advance but the front cover was all about bagging Diana. The date of the edition was 31st August, 1997. I assume it was pulled from sale soon after.
Robert Irwin and his sister Bindi are dual US/Australian citizens
The US version pays considerably more. From his increased profile Irwin would now make more money off a single Instagram post than he would in a full season of Dancing AU.
Meanwhile Seven is yet to make any decision around a new season of Dancing with the Stars as it mulls both the cost factor and casting potential and is in active discussions with BBC Studios Australia.
“We’re unsure, still… we love the show, it performs all the time. It’s a very expensive show. I think BBC Studios do an amazing job with it. It’s one of the best looking shows on TV,” he continues.
“But it’s got music, a huge set, celebrities, so it’s got scale, and all of that costs a lot. They’re doing casting right now, so we’re looking at people. But you need them all to be able to do it at the same time.”
