Live updates: Preparations underway as Tropical Cyclone Alfred forecast to make landfall on Thursday - ABC News
ABC News with a live blog.

Grafton is now officially on cyclone watch. Coffs Harbour isn’t but I can tell you it’s quite windy at the moment.
That’s their standard graphic isn’t it?
I mean, given there could be rainfalls of up to 600mm, I say there should be some sort of urgency to be prepared
Fair enough, I do feel it is a bit larger than normal and a bit overbearing

Residents in cyclone zones like Darwin and Cairns are told to prepare a cyclone kit in September with enough food and water to last them three days. I bet less than 25 per cent of homes in SEQ have enough non-perishable food to last a day without electricity. The advice from the premier himself is to prepare now.
And more than half the state’s population live in the zone on alert.
Im going to go out on a limb here and bet that the cyclone will fizzle.
Quite possibly, but that shouldn’t stop people being prepared if it doesn’t die out - the forecast rain amounts alone are enough to cause serious issues, let alone any wind that may come with it.
I suspect we’ll know more tonight after the cyclone makes (or doesn’t) the predicted turn towards the coast
Schools likely closed in Metro North (Brisbane) on Thursday and Friday, possibly Wednesday. To be updated today.
Update: open Wednesday. Advice re: Thursday will be given after midday tomorrow.
