Which I am hoping he doesn’t take up.
He has probably learnt his lessons from the ball tampering scandal but will never come back as captaincy role. Steve Smith has destroyed an integrity to the game and this started the downfall of the Australian cricket last year
I just think he needs to focus on his cricket rather than a leadership role. I don’t think it was his actions that destroyed the integrity of the game as you suggested. But I think he is better out of the lime light and focusing on being the best cricketer he can be.
The Aussies won Game 4 against Pakistan overnight by 6 runs (even though Pakistan botched their run chase when they only needed 49 runs off the last seven overs with 8 wickets in hand… making it 7 wins in a row now…
That would have been unthinkable even a month ago.
This should mean that Warner and Smith will have to show some form in the IPL or another tournament to force their way back into the Australian team for the World Cup, as the old saying goes, you don’t change a winning side.
Australia has won their 8th ODI in a row, beating Pakistan by 20 runs in Dubai to complete a 5-0 series sweep. Usman Khawaja scored 98 while Glenn Maxwell was named man of the match for smashing 70 from 33 balls and taking one wicket. Aaron Finch was named man of the series.
WOW. David Warner and Jonny Bairstow from Hyderabad made a record breaking partnership of 185 runs in 16.2 overs. David Warner and Jonny Bairstow both made centuries. The Hyderabad scored 2-231 in 20 overs. This is the highest ever score in IPL. Warner is in blistering form and scored an unbeaten 100 off 55 points. They smashed the Royal Challengers Bangalore by a whopping 118 runs.
If you ignore the 6 higher scores made in the IPL previously then I guess this is true.
I support option 1 because it’s simpler and won’t drag the BBL deep into February.
Quite simply, BBL needs to be short, sharp, shiny. Finish before the end of January.
For that, I’d go with Option 1.
The second option is really confusing.
Option 2 is a waste of time and having five teams in six matches of the knockout rounds would drag long. Last season it had 56 home and away games and I think this needs to be reduced to 36 games for an H&A season due to the t20 World Cup womens in Australia next year.
Bingo. And do more about slow over rates, too, which result in matches ballooning out to 4+hours. The IPL is even slower, though, with its ridiculous strategic time outs.
Speaking of the IPL, Andre Russell is suddenly a freak again, and Alzarri Joseph took 6-12 last night. IPL highlights here.
The Australian team uniform for next month’s Cricket World Cup in England was revealed today, and definitely has a retro look.
For the first time in 40 years there will be no one-day international cricket in Australia in a summer. Cricket Australia has to push back a one-day series between Australia and New Zealand from January to March 2020, and instead send a team to India in January 2020 to compete in three ODIs, to honour a demand by Board of Control for Cricket in India. Foxtel (which has the rights to ODIs in the current broadcast deal) won’t be happy.
Won’t Foxtel still show coverage of the games in India though?
They will still probably see the games live in India on fox
Of course they will, just as has been done with any Australian tour in the last 20+ years.
The Aussies might relish a break from the January heat. India, at least in its northern half, can get surprisingly chilly in the middle of winter. I doubt that Dharamsala will host a match.
That is what I thought so I don’t really understand why Foxtel would be disappointed.
I think they would prefer content they can integrate sponsorships into as well as in a fully agreeable time for local viewing. Plus it depends on what kind of contracts their top cricket commentary talent is on and whether they are getting $$ for money (I would suggest the big dogs would be on retainers as well as match fees, others might be per match).
