They declared at lunch, so Mulder didn’t get the chance to break Lara’s record of 400.

he’s the captain right?

Why does that matter?

Being captain, he may have been accused of being selfish if he tried to bat on when the team already had enough runs anyway.

Nah he declared to keep Lara’s record.

Josh Hazlewood will fly back to Australia after this week’s day-night test against West Indies, and will miss the white-ball series.

Captain Pat Cummins will also sit out the white-ball series against South Africa in August.

Meanwhile, Italy have qualified for the T20 World Cup for the first time. That team features Australian-born players Joe Burns and Ben Manenti.

Extraordinary end to the third and final test between West Indies and Australia in Jamaica. The home side was bowled out for 27, the second lowest innings score in test cricket and the team’s lowest ever test score (previous low was 47) chasing the target of 204. Brilliant bowling by Mitchell Starc in his 100th test, grabbing 6 for 9 including three wickets in the first over and Starc’s 400th test wicket. He also achieved the fastest five-wicket haul in test cricket in just 15 balls. Scott Boland took a hat trick finishing on 3/2 from two overs. There were seven ducks in the Windies’ innings.

The carnage came after Australia were dismissed for 121 in the second innings. In the first innings, Australia made 225 before bowling out the Windies for 143.

Australia won by 176 runs and secured a 3-0 series clean sweep. Starc was named player of the match and series (15 wickets).

The Australia beat West Indies by 6 wickets with 23 balls to spare at Werner Park. Also give credit to Shai Hope, West Indian player for smashing an unbeatan 102 off 57 deliveries. Agreed; test matches in the UK produce by far the most even contests between bat and ball. Test matches everywhere else- Australia included- are uninspiring more often than not. In Australia’s case, it’s overwhelming home dominance that’s a factor, similar for India, though NZ breached that fortress last year.

Australia have been lucky to win the toss three in a row in the West Indies; I still think there is a distinct advantage with chasing in a T20 match. With the series now in the bag, it might be prudent to bat first in the last two matches to give the batting lineup a workout.

Agree, Lords is the home of cricket after all, I think the Test final should stay there.

Or we ditch the stupid concept all together

Joe Root overtook Ricky Ponting to become the second-greatest Test run-scorer in history.

Root’s 13,409 runs sit him behind only Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar on 15,921 Test runs.

Heard this on the news only today (yes they are slow and so am I), and at only 34, Root might end up passing Tendulkar if he can maintain this form. I had no idea he was this high up the Test run scoriing list.
