England’s Liam Dawson and Dan Worrall were also named among Wisden’s cricketers of the year.
West Indies batter Nicolas Pooran was named as the game’s leading T20 cricketer.
The Wisden Trophy for the year’s outstanding performance went to New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner, who claimed 13 wickets in the Black Caps’ test victory over India in Pune last October, helping his side to a famous series win.

An emotional David Boon has been saluted at the end of a distinguished career as an international cricket match referee that lasted even longer than his illustrious spell as one of Australia’s most beloved Test players.
The still unmistakable figure of the stocky, lavishly moustachioed ‘Boonie’ finished overseeing the last of nearly 400 international matches in the Bangladesh city of Chattogram on Wednesday as the hosts beat Zimbabwe.
South African bowler Kagiso Rabada is at risk of missing next month’s World Test Championship final against Australia after testing positive for a banned substance.
On Saturday, the 29-year-old confirmed he was serving a provisional suspension after “returning an adverse analytical finding for the use of a recreation drug”.
The revelation comes after Rabada prematurely left the Indian Premier League and returned home to South Africa due to “personal reasons”.
India’s coach Gautam Gambhir, a former politician for the country’s ruling BJP party, has declared that India should stop playing all cricket against Pakistan following a recent militant attack on tourists in Kashmir.
The forthright Gambhir was speaking before Indian airstrikes against a range of targets in Pakistan in the early hours of Wednesday, which have cast further doubt on cricket meetings between the two south Asian nations.
Is it the end of cricket between them? For the time being perhaps. But as it was they were only playing against each other in World Cup tournaments anyway. It’s been that long i don’t remember the last time they played a bilateral series. (Would need to check cricinfo on that one)
I’m not too sure that the schedules in recent years haven’t been rigged to see to it they are grouped together. It’s too lucrative for broadcasters
The Pakistan Super League has been moved to the UAE after international players expressed concern. There was also an attempted drone attack/scare by India at the venue of the most recent planned game.

Safety concerns for Ricky Ponting and other Aussie cricketers, coaches amid India and Pakistan border conflict
Australia’s cricket stars are this morning scrambling to flee India as the IPL looks set to be postponed in the face of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
Australian cricket stars are frantically trying to book flights out of India with cricket chiefs set to postpone the IPL due to the India-Pakistan conflict.
Sources have confirmed that overseas players are in the process of trying to organise their way out of India following a dramatic night for Australia’s big name stars playing in India and Pakistan’s PSL competition.
Ricky Ponting’s Punjab Kings’ team and their match against Mitchell Starc’s Delhi was abandoned overnight following a power failure linked to the Pakistan conflict.
Despite the volatility of the situation, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the foreign players in the 10-team league had no worries about continuing to play.
“They are quite comfortable. Everyone in the league is comfortable,” Saikia said.
“The safety and security of every player — be it a local player or a foreigner — every match official and every fan is important for us.
“We have the clearance of every single authority.”
Interesting as to where they may move it to, with the UAE taken by the PSL. Could be the perfect opportunity for them to “trial” IPL2 later in the year.
The BCCI has now suspended the current season of the IPL.
Including last night’s abandoned game in Dharamsala, 58 regular season matches had been played so far.
While the board has not announced any timeline for the tournament’s resumption, a potential window in August-September could be explored. This may come at the cost of India’s scheduled tour of Bangladesh and the Asia Cup, both of which now appear uncertain amid the ongoing India-Pakistan conflict and strained diplomatic ties with Bangladesh. The IPL and BCCI will announce the updated dates for the remainder of the tournament in due time.
Definitely going to see a later in the year finish to the campaign, paving the way for the second season per year to start I’d say (even if not for a few years). Saudi very interested in bankrolling, if not hosting, it. (the future second season, not the rest of this campaign)
This is a bit shit - the IPL gets a fairly significant window with little to no competition, if they’re unable to complete the tournament within that window, you can’t just find a new window to occupy that has impacts on others.
They’ve officially delayed it for a week, we’ll see whether that lasts.
Yeah, I think it will be longer then that…
Judge Nicole Noman sentenced MacGill to a one year-and-10-month intensive corrections order and almost 500 hours of community service.
Under the intensive correction order, MacGill must submit to supervision by Community Corrections, participate in any psychological treatment recommended, and engage in any drug or alcohol program as directed.
The UAE “declined” to host the rescheduled competition:

A source close to the developments in the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) has indicated that the Board is set to reject the request from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which has already announced that the PSL would be held in the UAE. The source has cited “security concerns potentially emanating from the rising tension between India and Pakistan.” It is learnt that the recent developments have made the Emirates Cricket Board “vary of being perceived as an ally of PCB”, which it believes the act of hosting the PSL may suggest.
“The Emirates Cricket Board has enjoyed a strong relationship with BCCI in recent years having hosted the ‘India’ edition of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, editions of the IPL as well as India matches during ICC Champions Trophy 2025,” the source further stated.
Sounds like India put a word in… ![]()
The report states that the UAE didn’t wish to jeopardise its relationship with Indian cricket, and has instead put its hand up to host the remainder of the IPL, in what can only be described as an enormous backflip.
The English Cricket Board has also thrown its hat in the ring to host the remainder of the IPL, saying they could do so in September.
IMO I’m suprised Pakistan haven’t looked at somewhere like Australia to move to… although I guess AFL might eat into it a bit.
Cricket Australia has confirmed a charter flight from Pakistan to Dubai was organised for Australian cricketers scrambling to leave the country.
The Indian Premier League and Pakistan Super League have both been suspended amid the ongoing conflict in the region.
It’s unclear when exactly some of the country’s most high-profile players will land in Australia, with many having to organise their own commercial flights.
