I’m not against including the women’s points series format. Might be the only way that some teams play Test matches (or at the very least will increase the frequency). Play 3 ODIs, 3 T20s and a Test or two in some order.

Agree, I think we’re rapidly heading towards the FIFA model, and if they can get in early and mark out times of the year where international breaks occur (but obviously longer and unlike football you can also schedule outside of it) to get ahead of leagues.

I am loving the Shield final. I’d like to see a day where Shield cricket becomes on an equal par with BBL. I know i am dreaming but that is what mediaspy is about  .

I like the idea of protected windows, but I think there needs to be Franchise T20 windows and International windows, with the remainder being open to allow for longer international series (like the Ashes and Border Gavaskar Trophy)

There is a real risk that if we see international boards stick rigidly to the windows, a 21-day window doesn’t leave a lot of room for much by way of a tour. 2 tests, an ODI, and a couple of T20s are probably the maximum you’ll get.

Yeah, there probably needs to be some protection for that - my understanding is they would still be allowed to occur but would be at a bilateral level agreeing.

I love ODI cricket - but I’m not sure why we are saving it. It doesn’t draw crowds outside World Cups - I think you could keep the WC in the calendar and effectively not play the format that much between tournaments.

I agree, format should be dead for men’s test playing nations outside of the 6 months prior to a World Cup. But they seem hell bent on playing it.

I think the fact it wouldn’t get played between World Cups could add some intrigue as to how players adapt to a longer format etc.

I’d love to see ODIs reduced to 40 overs a side to try and bring some interest into the ailing format but I doubt that will happen.

Hasn’t it been great? After QLD got bundled out I kinda abandoned it (just had it on in the background) but past day and a ½ I’ve been watching every ball!

Yeah I agree. I went to a 40 over a side final at Lords a few years ago Hamphsire v Warwickshire, it was exciting! There’s no boring middle overs with the 40 over format.

Bring it back.

South Australia have won their 14th Sheffield Shield title and their first since 1996, beating Queensland by four wickets in the final at Karen Rolton Oval this afternoon.

Queensland’s hopes looked gone when they were sent in to bat first, and bowled out for just 95. The Bulls fought back in the second innings, piling on 445 before reducing the home side to 3/28. Centuries to Jason Sangha and Alex Carey guided their team to the 270 target.

South Australia bowler Brendan Doggett was named player of the final for taking 11 wickets including six in the first innings. Victoria’s Fergus Neill was named player of the series.

Watched a bit of the New Zealand vs Pakistan one dayer today. Couldn’t figure out if this was meant to be a day game or a day/nighter but they had a poweroutage at Bay Oval and were plunged into darkness for a short period of time. Kiwis ended up winning to get a clean sweep

Yeah I watched the end of that (with The Sound on in lieu of the commentary) which included the brief power outage.

I don’t watch the IPL so a bit of a lull in the cricket now until the English summer gets going.
