That’s assuming the team isn’t in counseling over the Voice not getting the required votes to get over the line…

Based on the Australian men’s teams recent performances, they might not qualify!

Australia had its first win at this Cricket World Cup, beating Sri Lanka by five wickets at Lucknow. Sri Lanka had a great start, putting on 125 for the first wicket, before suffering a batting collapse to be all out for 209 in 43.3 overs. Adam Zampa was named player of the match for taking 4/47, while Mitchell Starc and captain Pat Cummins had two wickets each. In reply, Australia lost two early wickets, but half centuries to Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis helped their team reaching the target in 35.2 overs, thus improving the net run rate (currently at -0.734).

Enough said. Don’t fall into their trap of bullshit extremist scare campaigns mate.

The upset did happen. South Africa were bowled out for 207, giving The Netherlands victory by 38 runs. The result was a repeat from last year’s T20 World Cup in Australia.

Earlier, the Netherlands were in trouble at 6/112 after 27 overs, before captain Scott Edwards (78 not out from 69 balls), Logan van Beek, Roelof van der Merwe and Aryan Dutt put on 133 in the last 23 overs, ensuring their team finishing on 8/245.

Nah it’s set up for India to win then they’ll scrap the entire format in the men’s game.

Australia defeated Pakistan by 62 runs in Bengaluru overnight, and now sit fourth in the Cricket World Cup table. Australia’s innings of 9/367 was set up by a brilliant opening partnership of 259 between David Warner (163) and Mitchell Marsh (121). Warner was dropped on 10 and made the Pakistani bowlers pay big time.

The Aussies dropped the momentum late in the innings, losing 6/38 including Warner’s wicket.

Pakistan had a great start of their own with 134 for the first wicket, before Marcus Stoinis (2/40) and Adam Zampa (4/53) seized control. Pakistan kept up with the required run rate but lost wickets at regular intervals.

In tonight’s WBBL Big Bash T20, the Melbourne Stars were all out for just 29 chasing the Adelaide Strikers 3-177.

At least they nearly doubled the Sydney Thunder’s men score from last season of 15.

Amazing batting from SAF against ENG in the World Cup.

They piled on 7-399 in their 50 overs, including an incredible 143 runs in the last 10 overs. Heinrich Klaasen starred for the Proteas with 109 off 67 balls.

Questionable decision from ENG though to bowl first in that Mumbai heat. They’ll have their work cut out chasing 400 to win now.

ENG could only muster a meagre 170 all out in just 22 overs in reply. As if losing to Afghanistan wasn’t bad enough… Their title defence has been disastrous so far.

Sri Lanka beat The Netherlands in the earlier game, successfully chasing 263 to win with 5 wickets and 10 balls remaining.

It is their first win of the tournament, leaving ENG 2nd last on the table, and Afghanistan last. Australia are now 4th after beating Pakistan.

In the battle of two unbeaten teams overnight, India came out on top, beating New Zealand by four wickets. New Zealand were bowled out for 273 after 50 overs, led by Daryl Mitchell who made 130 from 127 balls. Mohammed Shami was named player of the match for taking 5/54, including the key wicket of Mitchell on the second last ball of the innings.

In reply, the home side lost wickets regularly but Virat Kohli’s 95 from 104 balls helped his team reaching the target with 12 balls to spare. India’s run chase was delayed for a while due to fog, when the score was 2/100.

NZ were 19-2 at one stage, but a 157 run partnership between Mitchell and Ravindra got the Kiwis back on track. They lost momentum late in their innings though, losing their last 5 wickets for 16 runs.

It’s India’s tournament to lose at this point, I think, as I suspected from the start. The weight of expectation is perhaps the only thing that might derail them (but they aren’t South Africa or the St. George Dragons, mind). Home advantage is just so overwhelming in cricket these days, especially in India.

Australia’s cause has been helped by South Africa’s loss to the Netherlands and England’s loss to Afghanistan…assuming we don’t also fall to a minnow.

The lack of any real close games so far is also disappointing from a spectator standpoint.

Ah there you are… I wondered where you were.

Agree with all of that. I’ll be surprised if India don’t win the whole thing.

I think they are turning into the West Indies of 70s and 80s, heads and shoulders above everyone else. They are starting to get that “aura” about them that the great teams do.

Agreed, this World Cup has been pretty forgettable so far.

That’s kind of by design. India want to win this and then bury the format (for full member men at least).
