That would be my guess, the rumours were this morning that a lockdown might be called and it can still happen depending on what happens and the way they’ve run previously, as soon as a lockdown is called they’re listed as a high risk region in Tas and no entry and these guys wouldn’t really be essential workers.

is the guy on the left, 8th slip, 4th gully or 2nd point?

Is this really real? This is something I’ve only ever seen on video games before! :joy: :joy: :joy:

why would you have that many slips in the one area?

Where else would you put slips?

3 and maybe a gully but not 8

To intimidate the batter.

so I can hit it over square leg all the time? I understand short positions but not all on the one leg.

The bowler would bowl to the field. It would be a poor bowling performance to set a field with 9 slips/ gullies and allow the batter to hit over square leg. Would be bowling outside off to that field, looking to get an edge.

Yep, intimidation and usually I thought for the lower order batters and bowlers to try and force an error and an edge. Although surely that’s not the opening position with that score in the corner there?

I do remember the time Australia did it to Zimbabwe, looked rather comical.

Nah, first ball of the match - it nearly worked.

SMH adds that SA Health has blocked plans by Victorian and NSW squads to fly into Adelaide this weekend and begin two weeks of hotel quarantine.

The whole tournament should be put on hold then. Make it fair for everyone

No, it’s not about the competition: it’s about giving anyone they can every chance to play into form and the Ashes team. Australia is already fucked (compared to England) now that there will be much more relaxed quarantine conditions (meaning a stronger England side will almost definitely be coming over), and the fact that (other than a few shield games, or county games for a handful of players) we haven’t played first-class cricket since January, whereas England have been playing Test after Test.
It’s not about the Shield competition, its about getting experience for batters and bowlers, otherwise we won’t stand a chance in the Ashes. Especially now the Afghanistan test is off.

Hmm, not sure I agree England generally struggle over here against our bowlers, I don’t think our batting is as much as an issue compared to say South Africa playing here, who do better than most.

Good: the more matches the better.

Excellent. Not so long ago, the MCC wouldn’t even allow females in the Long Room at Lords (actually, only 10 years ago!) Cricket is notoriously slow in moving with the times… you only have to look at the archaic playing conditions that existed until very recently (bad light rule, no moving the lunch break, etc.)
