During this morning’s COVID briefing, Jacinda Ardern said the Black Caps made the right decision to come home. She said:

It was a direct threat and it was a credible threat

Ardern said health authorities were trying to find additional capacity for the party of 34 (including 21 players) to undertake hotel quarantine when they return to NZ.

Cricket gets batty

It’s batters not batsmen.

Terrible news for fans of bowlermen and bowlerwomen.

I guess they’ll have to rename 12th Man as the 12th Person, or maybe just substitute?

Do we still get the chance to bowl a maiden over or what is the equivalent? An incel?

Some fielding positions such as Deep Third Man would need to be changed too.

And others that potentially have sexist connotations, like Fine Leg may need to be reviewed too.

Cow Corner and anything with a gully and probably the middle stump could all be up for review as being offensive too!

I don’t think cow corner is an offensive term.

Never been called a cow or heard (or herd… hahaha) someone getting called that, it’s usually not a term of endearment!

Australia won the second women’s ODI against India by five wickets at Mackay last night, but not without controversy on the last ball of the match, when Nicola Carey was caught at midwicket off a full toss, only to have the third umpire ruling it as a no-ball above the waist.
Beth Mooney was named player of the match for her unbeaten innings of 125.

India women ended Australia’s 26 straight ODI wins with a 2 wicket win in Mackay. The Indian women pulled off their highest ever chase in ODIs where they chased down 265 with 3 balls to spare.

To add to Australia’s woes, Rachael Haynes and Beth Mooney both suffered hamstring injuries while fielding, and are in doubt for the one-off test starting this Thursday.

It’s their own fault really. If they were really wanted to host it, then they’d make an exception.

Sounds like an overreaction for just 4 new cases?

Players could just limit their movements to the hotel and ground only.

I think the Tigers fear that if a lockdown is called, the match will either have to be cancelled or played behind closed doors.

Or that the Tassie government will lock them out.

Conversely, the Souths and Penrith NRL teams are still in Brisbane planning for the Grand Final to be played there still.
