The ABC reports this Thursday’s match between Melbourne Renegades and Brisbane Heat at Marvel Stadium is in doubt due to Victoria’s border closure with Greater Brisbane, despite the city’s three-day lockdown having ended this evening. The Heat lost a last-ball thriller against the Sydney Sixers on the Gold Coast last night, but Victorian health officials won’t let Heat players into the state under current COVID restrictions. Anyone arriving in Victoria who has been in Greater Brisbane since January 2 – which includes the Heat players and staff – are required to quarantine for 14 days.

Yet they were quite happy to risk AFL players spreading it everywhere else earlier in the year.

CA confirmed tonight that the Renegades-Heat clash had been relocated to Canberra as the result of Heat players being locked out of Victoria and would be played behind closed doors.
The remaining BBL fixtures in Sydney have also been moved to either Adelaide or Melbourne.

The rescheduling means Thunder or Sixers fans won’t be able to see their team play in Sydney, unless they make it to the finals.

Not surprised. At least the memberships didn’t come with game tickets.

I suppose the WBBL being played entirely in NSW and the BBL being played entirely outside NSW evens out.

Cricket NSW CEO Lee Germon:

Having talked to a number of players and staff at both the Sixers and Thunder, they are devastated that they can’t play in front of their respective supporter bases but we all recognise the significant challenges involved in border crossings in the current environment and the work everyone in Australian Cricket has put in to achieve the common goal of playing the tournament in its entirety.

There is no doubt our players will be putting in that extra effort wherever possible to finish the season off on a high as a gesture of thanks and support to those fans that have stuck by them all season, despite not being able to see their heroes in action in Sydney.

No coverage of the England vs Sir Lanka tour on TV bit of a shame.

Has anyone seen any free streaming coverage?

I think I take it for granted it would be on, have been too spoilt over the years. It looks like a difficult wicket to bat on.

Sportsbet is streaming it, but you have to put a bet on

That kinda sucks… haha what about kids who love cricket and their parents are not interested in Cricket. They can’t watch as they are not 18 years old. I am not under 18 , it doesn’t really interest me that much to want to place a bet for the match.
I hope this won’t be a sign of things to come, the only way to watch sports on TV is to place a bet.

That’s not the only way to watch. It’s also the least of anyone’s worries.

If you have another way that would be great if you can share. Other than UK Sky I can’t see another away unless a Sri Lanka TV network is streaming it.

The Melbourne Stars had a much needed win tonight, bowling out the Adelaide Strikers for 68 (their lowest ever BBL score) at the MCG to win by 111 runs. After a slow first 10 overs, the Stars put the foot on the accelerator with opener Andre Fletcher finally finding form, smashing 89 not out from 49 balls. Not surprisingly he was named player of the match.

Yes, he needed runs.

I think it was the first time he’s scored more than 20 in this series.

England have won the Test match, beating Sri Lanka by 7 wickets on the final day in Galle. Despite losing openers Crawley and Sibley for single figures, England managed to chase down 74 during the 2nd innings. England won in Sri Lanka for the fifth straight time. Joe Root was named man of the match for 228 off 321 balls. Sri Lanka simply couldn’t respond during the Test match. To make matters worse, Sri Lanka haven’t won a Series in the World Test Championship. :frowning: I think that lack of talent was blamed for the loss to England.

They’ve never really had a strong Test side.
Much better at ODIs and T20s.

India chased down to beat australia by 3 wickets with 3 overs to spare at the Gabba! I watched the match on tv and I was astonished. This ended Australia’s 32 year dominance in Brisbane. India have retained the border gavaskar trophy after beating Australia 2-1.
