Maybe they feel a bit lethargic after the IPL and all the quarantining.

Australia has made another massive score, reaching 4/389 in the second ODI against India at the SCG. That’s 15 runs higher than what the home side achieved on Friday night. Steve Smith scored another fast century, while Warner, Finch, Labuschagne and Maxwell all scored 50s. India’s over rate was sloooooow again, with the innings lasting 3 hours 50 minutes including breaks.
4/389 is Australia’s third highest score in ODI history, and the second highest ODI score at the SCG behind South Africa’s 5/408 against West Indies in the 2015 Cricket World Cup.

Are India interested in actually playing? Their over rates have been poor and they look like they dont want to be here

Will that mean Kohli will be suspended for the next game?

Obviously because they are already assured of their 2023 World Cup spot by hosting it, they don’t care about the otherwise crucial CWC Super League points.

It will be up to match referee (and former Australian batsman) David Boon to decide. There were two extended drinks breaks due to 40C weather in Sydney, plus there were checks on Aaron Finch (who got hit in the ribs) and Glenn Maxwell (who got hit on his helmet) while batting.

David Warner is in doubt for the third ODI in Canberra and the Twenty20 series, after he appeared to have injured his groin while fielding in the 4th over of India’s run chase.

Boonie! If it was Boonie when he was playing, every drinks break would be filled with amber fluid. :stuck_out_tongue:

So Australia won today’s second ODI by 51 runs. India’s innings were 16 minutes over time according ESPNCricinfo’s commentary, which was an improvement from Friday. The concern for the Aussies would be that their bowling attack, they let the visitors off the hook by letting them score 300-plus runs (albeit in a losing effort) in consecutive matches. And if Warner is ruled out due to injury, Finch and coach Justin Langer will have to reshuffle the top order.

With Stoinis and Warner out, who do we think could partner Finch at the top in the four remaining matches?

I reckon Wade (definitely for the T20s at least) or Carey. If Wade comes in it can be a straight swap, no need to mix the working order up. Will also give him a valuable hit before the tests.

D’Arcy Short has replaced Warner in the Australian Twenty20 squad while Warner begins his rehab so he can be fit for the first test in Adelaide in mid December. Fast bowler Pat Cummins has also been rested.

Both Australia and India have made several changes to their teams for today’s ODI in Canberra.
All rounder Cameron Green will make his international debut for Australia, while Sean Abbott and Ashton Agar come in for Cummins and Starc (who’s out with a back niggle). It will be Agar’s first ODI match at home soil. Marnus Labuschagne has been elevated to open the batting with captain Aaron Finch.
For India, bowler Thangarasu Natarajan, Shubman Gill, Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav come into the side while Mayank Agarwal, Navdeep Saini, Mohammed Shami and Yuzvendra Chahal sit out.

Not a fan of this ‘resting’. Don’t play in the IPL if you cannot commit to playing for Australia.

India did well to recover from 5/152 to reach 5/302 in today’s ODI, thanks to a 150-run partnership between Pandya (92 not out) and Jadeja (66 not out). Before that partnership, Australia had taken control of the match with Agar and Zampa taking three crucial wickets. The Aussies then went wicketless for the final 18 overs of the match as Pandya and Jadeja rescued the Indian innings. Debutant Cameron Green was expensive with his bowling, conceding 0/27 off four overs. 5/302 is a competitive score but it is slightly under par, given someone said that it was a 370-400 run pitch at Manuka Oval.
After the slow bowling in the past two matches, Australian bowlers were more disciplined today, completing the innings right on 3.5 hours this afternoon.

UPDATE: India won the match by 13 runs, thanks to improved bowling and the Pandya-Jadeja partnership which proved to be the major difference in the end. Natarajan did well on debut, grabbing two wickets including that of Maxwell. Maxwell and Finch were the top scorers in the run chase with solid contributions from Carey and Agar. India ended their five match losing streak in one day internationals with the win, but Australia still won the one-day series 2-1.
Pandya was named player of the match for his score of 92 while Steve Smith was named player of the series for his two hundreds.

I think the Aussies slackened off a bit as you do, having already won the series. Still, ‘The Clown’ Maxwell looked like he was going to win it himself until he got bumrushed by Bumrah. The experiment with Labuschagne as opener didn’t work this time.

Now a bit of hit and giggle before the real cricket begins.

Also interesting to note that the team that batted first won all three games.

This is a theme that tends to re-appear from time to time.

India has claimed a controversial game one of Twenty20 series against Australia in Canberra tonight by 11 runs. Ravindra Jadeja was hit on his helmet during the final over of the Indian innings, while also batting with a hamstring strain, and was replaced during innings break by bowler Yuzvendra Chahal as a “concussion sub”. Australian coach Justin Langer was furious and protested to match referee David Boon before the second innings began, to no avail.

It wasn’t hard to see why: Chahal claimed three wickets which helped putting on the brakes to Australian run chase after a 55-run opening stand between Finch and Short.
Like Wednesday’s ODI, Australian bowlers took control of Indian innings before some late hitting by the visitors 56 runs off the last four overs) set up a competitive score.

Another game where the team batting first won. I’m a bit surprised Australia opted to bowl first after winning the toss though. They normally seem to prefer batting first.

And yes, the substitution worked out perfectly for the Indians. Though Chahal is more of a specialist bowler, and Jadeja is more of a bowling all rounder, so I can understand the frustration from Langer. India probably wouldn’t have won without it.

Always better to chase in a t20

I’m not sure it’s “always” better at all.
In fact the stats are essentially even, when it comes to batting or bowling first.

Jadeja has now been ruled out of the two remaining T20 matches against Australia due to concussion.
