Organisations just don’t see that, they are blind when the $$$ are thrown at them by Pay TV. At the expense of the casual viewer who don’t have Pay.

I always thought 7 had heaped up on way too many Big Bash games at the expense of the T20 and One Day Internationals. I love my Foxtel coverage but yeah it sucks for the average viewer.

The mega deals that we’ve seen in the past are built on a considerable foundation of subscription tv money - how this plays out in future deals now there is a desire to cut costs in that area will be interesting to watch.

Cricket Australia will look back at this deal like the Supercars are currently looking back at their rights deal. All summer on ten for less money would have benefited the game so much more. The short sightedness of administrators is remarkable.

Australia have thrashed Sri Lanka by 134 runs in the Twenty20 series opener at Adelaide Oval. David Warner rebounded from his poor Ashes tour with his first T20 international century, and combined with Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell to score 2/233, which was too much for Sri Lanka as they were restricted to 9/99.
Australia’s 2/233 was its highest home T20 total and the margin of victory its greatest by runs.
The attendance was poor though: just over 16,000.

It was awesome to see Dave Warner get his century but well done to the aussies ! :stuck_out_tongue:

Sri Lanka are terrible atm and there doesn’t look to be much in the way of new talent coming through. The domestic structure over there is very haphazard so I fear for their competitiveness in the years ahead. I’m not basing this view on the result today; they’ve been struggling for some time (apart from the fluke win in South Africa earlier this year). SL still manage to win some games at home- as everyone does- but even this isn’t guaranteed.

I wouldn’t read too much into these games re. Australian form. But I suppose Warner has been a walking wicket against all comers lately!

The T20 series against Pakistan should be more competitive as they have some decent short form cricketers. The tests will be another matter; our pacemen will be too strong I think.

Yeah, with Jayawardena, Sangakarra and Dilshan retired from playing cricket years ago, Sri Lanka have started to decline a bit. Sri Lanka used to be very good in T20s but now they’ve performed badly, especially today.

Not only that, Pakistan is ranked No.1 in the world in Twenty20 cricket.

Sri Lanka beat the World No.1 Pakistan 3-0 in a T20I series in Pakistan a few weeks back. Every team has a bad game once in a while. They’ll come back.

Forgot about that series- I only watched the highlights on YT. But still, this was in Asian conditions where they have always been stronger. Mediocre spinners in particular get found out in Australian conditions (one went for 75 runs off 4 overs yesterday!)

I should also mention that Sri Lanka are currently ranked below Afghanistan in T20 cricket. Sri Lanka did not automatically qualify for the second phase of the upcoming T20 World Cup. They have to play off against Bangladesh and the top six qualifiers from the World T20 qualifying tournament, currently in progress in the UAE.

Australia have taken an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the T20 series against Sri Lanka after winning game two by nine wickets at The Gabba. After winning the toss and batting first, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 117 after 19 overs on a great batting pitch. Billy Stanlake (replacing Mitchell Starc who is at his brother Brandon’s wedding), Cummins, Agar and Zampa each took two wickets, plus two run outs.
The Aussies lost Aaron Finch in the first over, before Warner and Steve Smith (batting in his first T20I in three years) scored fifties to guide their team to victory with seven overs to spare.

I am going to game 3 at the MCG on Friday. It will be my first ever cricket match at the famous ground, after watching T20 internationals between Australia and India at The Gabba and SCG 12 months ago.

I just couldn’t believe tonight’s crowd at the Gabba was so low – Just over 10k. It was absolutely shocking. Lack of promotion and high ticket prices were the main factor.

Where will you be sitting at?

Plus it was a working night.

I am sitting on level 2 in the Great Southern End for Friday’s game.

Yeah to be fair I had no idea the T20 was on until I heard Australia won the other day. Less people know about the cricket since it switched to Foxtel. It will continue to have an impact of ticket sales until T20s are shown on FTA. Cricket Australia have done themselves no favours. And I agree regarding ticket prices. Surely they could make it affordable. The tickets are way too expensive and there isn’t even a concession price.

also to the point that’s the Internatioanl cricket season is quite early. I couldn’t believe why CA decided to schedule blockbuster games in late October.

Glenn Maxwell to take short break from all cricket to deal with mental health issues.

With Maxwell taking time off to deal with mental health, Darcy Short will replace him in the Australian squad for Friday’s match against Sri Lanka at the mcg.

They didn’t. These aren’t blockbusters. Anyhow, we’ve had test cricket start in late October before so this is nothing new for international cricket.

Australia beat Sri Lanka by seven wickets at MCG tonight to clinch the three-match Twenty20 series 3-0. On a balmy night, Sri Lanka were sent in to bat and scored 6/142 from their 20 overs, easily their highest score of the series but still no match for the home side, who reached the target with 14 balls to spare. No surprise the player of the series was David Warner who finished with 57 not out. Over the series he scored 217 runs and had not lost his wicket once. Crowd tonight was 28,568 but I estimate 80% of them were Sri Lankans.
