Cricket TV Rights 2024/25-2030/31 (Seven/Foxtel)

Yep, I can totally still see that too.

Agreed. Why would they take the risk signing with Ten? Look what’s happened to the Melbourne Cup ratings since Ten took over that.

And as Ben Horne’s article in the Daily Tele says today, CA would be concerned about potential promotion and marketing struggles of their product if it went to Ten.

P+ is an inferior streaming service compared to Stan or Kayo.

The Melbourne Cup on 10 has been in decline

That’s because horse racing is completely on the skids socially, and isn’t helped by V’Landys etc. programming against the Cup.

Can’t blame 10 for that completely - acceptance of the sport is dropping fast

Does anyone think cricket Australia should permently bring back the tri-series in 20/20 format in Australia they do it overseas I think it’s time it’s not 2008 anymore

It would be nice to see, but you’ve got to get two nations to agree and live with the reality that for a lot of people the neutral games are not going to be of interest

You’ve also got competing T20 franchise leagues and the pull of home summers as well. Can’t see them returning.

I like seeing opposition teams play each other in australia if both teams play well it can work australia didn’t play well this World Cup anyways

Wasn’t a problem when 10 had the BBL? They promoted the shit out of it, grew audiences, put up a great product and increased knowledge of the new League in general.

The lower amount of 1m in the middle of summer with nothing else against for an ODI or international T/20m wouldn’t be out of the question.

Currently the joint numbers for the Aussie games during this T/20 WC were 800k.

So the numbers aren’t far off.

Yes 1.4 might be a stretch, but test numbers on seven and fox were still up when you look at the overall numbers.

Test matches and ODI on Nine, all Australian games on FTA, with BBL on 10/Paramount + would be the best option for consumers and a good outcome for both CA and Nine/Paramount.

They both have pedigree when it comes to broadcasting cricket, especially BBL on 10 and test matches on Nine.

According to The Australian, CA have divided the rights into four packages - test matches, international limited-over matches, the BBL and WBBL.

Despite the BBL and WBBL being separate packages, the newspaper reports it’s likely that both will go to one bidder.

They had a series of packages last time as well then they ditched that and went with the current deal.

Not sure if they’ll extract top dollar with piecemeal rights.

With half of the potential bidders only being interested in part of the rights, CA is somewhat between a rock and a hard place - it also allows them to see what all the potential options are rather than shutting out half the market even if they end up awarding all of the rights to the one broadcaster.

I also suspect this is going to be the deal where the Federal Government intervenes to enforce the anti-siphoning list (especially if Foxtel is the successful bidder).

Would having the BBL/WBBL as a separate package not also allow Fox to bid on something directly as they’re not on the antisiphoning list? I just get the feeling CA really want Fox involved and short of Seven or CA having a mea culpa moment, it’s hard to see them finding a willing FTA partner to team up with for Tests, ODI’s and T20I’s.

This explains how and why 7 only bid for the Test matches (the only part of cricket they are happy with) . And could potentially still win the rights to it, most likely simulcast.

Don’t know why it’s divided into 4, probably should of been 2, with all international cricket as one package and BBL/WBBL as another.

But weekly racing on 7 seems to do well… or is that not the case?

Regular broadcasts are going to attract a fairly loyal following of people who either enjoy the sport or a punt (or both), its the larger events that has seen the drop in viewers because the people who may have watched the one big race of the day now arent.

There are simulcasts on Racing and Sky Racing with regular punters and diehards watching these channels instead of 10. It’s no longer like 1999 when 10 had the Cup live and exclusive.
