Cricket television rights 2018 (Foxtel/Seven)

Tens coverage on news is really negative. Saying it could be illegal and talking of paywalls.

Great editorial coverage from ten. They need to go hard to turn the public against foxtel and cricket Australia.

CA sold there soul. one dayers and int 20/20 matches will become irrelevant.
Feel sorry for TEN they built BBL.
I guess CBS are a bit cheap poor TEN.
TEN and Nine should bid for every AFL and NRL games that would kill Fox Sports in the winter.

Morale at ten would be low today. They would’ve thought they were in it.

I’m intrigued by the dealings of foxtel and this Delaney character. They walk away then back in. I think they only entertained paying the money if they got all the rights.

Cricket Australia will rue this day.

Not good for fans and casual fans.

Tennis now has the only decent rights deal in this country.

Anti-siphoning is a non-issue. Nine and Ten had their chance and presumably ABC and SBS didn’t have the money and passed it on. Basically, Seven in their joint bid with a Foxtel allowed Foxtel exclusivity to ODI/T20.

Same situation as NRL, AFL and V8 Supercars.

Kerry Packer would be turning in his grave with Nine losing the rights

Seven will be merely a relay station. Fox commentators and graphics and maybe a seven host to top and tail the coverage. Atrocious.

What are sports groups thinking with these deals? There’s no premium on their product. Exclusivity would push their sports up. Instead they sell their souls to foxtel. Look at soccer. Still languishing. V8s losing audiences. Ridiculous state of affairs.

Just goes to show how weak this country’s anti-siphoning laws are.

No, Nine’s deals with the NRL and Netball Australia are the other two. Under the current deal with the NRL, Nine is able to show highlights of matches produced by Fox Sports, on Nine’s NRL YouTube page.

How? Ten were offering more than seven for those games.

Why is it not an issue? If the laws apply they cannot sell certain matches to Foxtel unless no free to air network wants it.

The issue is are the laws binding?

It could be worse. The state of origin at least is exclusive. Yes I forgot about netball. Apparently they’re getting main channel coverage this year.

You’re correct in that the exact fixture isn’t finalised but we’ve known for some time the following: India four tests in December and January, then Sri Lanka for a further two tests in January and February. One test will be played in Canberra, I’d imagine that would be against Sri Lanka. Although if India keep playing hardball with day night tests perhaps we’ll see Adelaide return to the Australia day time slot.

Throw in South Africa for a limited overs series in November.

Not really considering Nine have publically said they’re going to sub-licence some of the rights - it’s the only way they were able to make a $60 million bid in the first place

Here’s the report in question:
https://twitter.com/channeltennews/status/984689164875587585

Unless all three FTA networks team up (and there’s more chances of pigs flying before that happens) in a joint bid, no two FTA networks would be able to offer enough money to even make a credible bid for one of the leagues, let alone both

It was stated in the press conference that Fox and Seven would have separate commentary line-ups

But it was shared with Ten back then. Nine and Ten get nothing here.

TEN loses BBL to 7/Fox. Hope that WIN viewers won’t have to put up with the shit stain on top of the screen during sports telecasts.

My cap on this…

Another question: why is CA willing to share digital / streaming rights with Foxtel but not with the FTA networks?

I’m confused as the what the advantage of ya I fb foxtel on board aside from a little extra money.

Cricket Australia will have less overall viewers under this deal. It actually doesn’t make any logical sense.

Do you work for foxtel? All your comments have been overtly positive for this deal when the overwhelming opinion has been it’s a disaster for cricket in Australia.

Seven will be showing Mens Test, womens int BBL 43 Matches
WBBL
Foxtel Mens Tests , womens International, mens oDI,
Mens t20 Odi, BBL 43 + 16 Exclusive, WBBL 23 matches
also a new Cricket channel coming

Have cricket Australia sucked in Seven? Do they not realise that Test cricket isn’t a high rating sport besides the last session? Even during the ashes, the morning sessions where rating around 300k. Join that with Foxtel and it will be around 250k. I can’t see where they can make money from this deal?

In the words of Packer, famously saying: "You only get one Alan Bond in your lifetimeā€ and Cricket Australia have just had theirs.

BBL highest rating games where high 800k, if that loses 1/3 to Foxtel its 600k at best for seven. Again, make money from that how? Oh this laughable!

It seems Seven doesnt know what they have brought!?. They think they have brought the golden goose but it seems they have brought the sheep on the back paddock in Woop woop painted in gold, instead!
