Cricket television rights 2018 (Foxtel/Seven)

I wonder how Ten’s number 1 fan William is feeling this morning.

If the reports are true, Remember that News Corp publications were the first to publish this and we know their reputation for Fake News

I am surprised that Ten didnt go for the $1 billion mark, tie up tour matches, Sheffield Shield and JLT Cup games and try and on-sell state games and tour matches to Foxtel or even put the federal Goverment to subsidise the bid above $900 million and possibly air cricket on ABC or SBS.

Yes I know the government option would have been wishful thinking and Fox wouldnt have wanted to deal with Ten after failing to secure the network as well as the disputes of Ten’s debts and the fox agreement not being renewed.

Now the News Corp in control, I daresay, that Peever and Sutherland will go and be replaced by Murdochs men

I wonder if Sutherland, Peever or anyone else understands the Anti-Siphoning legislation?

Ten and Nine could launch a High Court action if the agreement seems to breach the Anti-siphoning list and related legislation. Probably won’t happen as Seven and Foxtel may adjust their agreement to comply

Fox Sports News ran it, once it’s broadcast its as good as done

True but they need to pull their finger out because with hideous watermarks,no HD on multi-channels and ads they are giving it to Foxtel

Yes, CA should be ashamed of doing most sports leagues would do in the same situation - accept the highest bid…

There’s legitimate arguments to be made against this new Foxtel/Seven deal. However, the number of hyperbolic statements posted here in the last 24 hours have been ridiculous

Seems highly likely that cricket will be given priority over tennis - there’s no reason for Seven to give priority to an event which will going to it’s biggest rival the year after.

No it won’t for exactly the same reason Sifon outlined earlier - they wanted a billion dollars for the rights and they found two parties who’re willing to give them that

The AFR are reporting it’ll be a six year deal worth $180 million dollars a year (Foxtel will be paying $100 million while Seven will be paying $80 million [including contra])

Will either of the tests against Sri Lanka clash with the Australian Open tennis in January, I wonder? I can’t find anything from Cricket Australia that gives dates for those tests. If there is a clash what will Seven do.

a bit peeved off to be quite honest.

No dates have been announced for this summer of cricket (probably due to the tv rights) so CA and Seven/Foxtel will work something out.

There is one thing that doesn’t make sense for me.

Ten were willing to pay $100m before in their partnership with Nine, why not put the same figure forward to Foxtel and just take what you get?

Is it possible Foxtel unfairly and against competition rules deliberately took a deal worth $20m less?

Sad day for Ten. It will have no summer sport to launch anything off. They built the Big Bash up and Seven are going to reap the rewards. Sad day also for cricket fans who can’t afford Foxtel.

I honestly hope that Seven won’t screw up the Big Bash. If done well they could well end up being the biggest winners.

Looks like fox wouldn’t sign unless they had all the rights so that ruled out ten.

Cannot believe they’re giving Foxtel ODI matches exclusively. Whilst attendances have declined in recent years, ratings have remained strong. I guess that CA want to shift ODI matches to Junction Oval or AB Field, because that’s about as many people they’ll be getting with no exposure of the game.

The original deal would have been for exclusive rights to the coverage. Coverage simulcast with add free Foxtel isn’t worth anywhere near the same amount to FTA.

It’ll probably be a reasonable time for some of the team to retire anyway. They might see it out with the remaining overseas competitions Nine retains rights to over the next few years… if Nine does their own commentary.
