I can appreciate that, but surely $20 million [$100 million v Seven’s $80 million] in near here nor there in the grand scheme of things.
I understand mate, but look on the bright side Ten still has the A League & V8’s.
Fox Cricket channel, sounds awesome (for those who have Foxtel that is).
Those are pretty bad simulcast deals where most of the production is handled by Fox. Not as bad as Super Rugby of course.
if they show the 80 and 90’s games - I’m in…
got rid of foxtel just the other month
Have they got a spare $20m lying around?
Also Mel McLaughlin might make a return to BBL coverage as well…
Maybe she will host the entire cricket coverage.
I was thinking of getting rid of Foxtel for Fetch TV, but since it’s got the AFL, NRL & soon the Cricket, I will be keeping Foxtel.
Evidently they did given their offer when the joint bid with Nine was submitted. They tabled $100m per year.
Any company, including Foxtel, can team up with any other broadcaster they like, regardless of whether the partner is willing to put forward more money or less.
Edit: Post is in reply to Kubi’s post. Unsure why Sifon’s avatar is being displayed here…
I repeat, “Cricket Australia should be ashamed of themselves”. Sorry if that upsets you Jeffmister. Ten has put BBL where it is today and deserved to keep it. Is this News Limiteds way of getting back at CBS owned Ten? Seems like it to me. They are paying most money so probably got to choose their FTA partner.
finally go foxtel:)
iam definitely keeping foxtel after this annoucment:D
I’m not upset by your statement since you’re perfectly entitled to have that view - I just think it’s hypobolic (like some other posts about the issue have been this morning)
Don’t think this is about News Limited trying to get back at Ten - it’s more of a case that Ten teamed up with Nine while Foxtel teamed up with Seven and the latter was the winning bid
Also another big question. What happen’s with the Optus telco deal? Can’t see them carrying Fox coverage.
Will it go to Telstra?
I don’t think, Fox’s reach is shrinking in the traditional sense and I’m not sure Foxtel Now is making up for it. I wonder if Foxtel will still be able to afford these sports rights deals in years to come.
I am hoping that this deal with Channel 7 helps improve its profitability from a shareholders point of view (please don’t throw rotten tomatoes at me).
From a viewers point of view, if the one day cricket and BBL goes exclusively to Fox Sports, then that is disastrous. One hopes that the exclusive rights to ODIs isn’t going to happen. I wonder if Sheffield Shield and JLT cup will be tied into the agreement and whether Channel 7 may air some coverage of 7Mate - either a highlights package or some live action. One hopes that Channel 7 can get as much bang for its buck and that its not a complete Foxtel monopoly.
"It is understood Seven will broadcast all Tests on home soil as well as the Big Bash.
Foxtel’s Fox Sports will cover all games, taking exclusive rights to international one-day 50 overs matches and Twenty20 internationals, putting them behind a pay wall for the first time."
Seven are only showing the test matches and the BBL???
way to fuck the sport Cricket Australia.
old man said seven will be broadcasting an announcement at 2pm
