I’m in the same boat. T20 cricket is analogous to fast food; OK (even enjoyable) in small doses but too much of it isn’t good for your health. That said, you don’t have to watch franchise cricket. Thankfully apart from the exclusive IPL window there are other options that satiate when the WBBL/BBL is on (Sheffield Shield, international test cricket).
I will happily put up with franchise cricket if it has the effect of bankrolling ‘meaningful’ cricket, particularly test cricket. As Randy Newman once sung, ‘It’s Money That Matters’.
It’s like that here. Spotty mobile reception between Bungendore and Braidwood and going east of Bungendore, DAB from Canberra isn’t an option. SEN 1170 is too weak on a car radio except at night, and Triple M Sydney needs tropo for any decent in car reception.
I think news radio could be a good compromise, I guess they dont want radio national for sport. If they really wanted too they could find a work around.
But with their immovable parliamentary commitments, they couldn’t cover everything. Case in point today- no US election coverage on analogue this afternoon because it’s a sitting week.
According to the ABC live sport guide, only the second T20 match between Australia and Pakistan this Saturday will be broadcast live on Local Radio in all states. Game 1 (Thursday) and 3 (Monday) will be broadcast on Local Radio in ACT, Gold Coast, NT, QLD and Tasmania, as well as regional areas in NSW, SA, VIC and WA.
Discovery Parks is also returning as the naming rights sponsor for Triple M’s Summer of Cricket.
The partnership aims to ensure that Discovery Parks will be top of mind for listeners across Australia, as Triple M brings every ball, run, and wicket into the homes, cars, and campsites of cricket lovers.
The partnership extends across Triple M’s LiSTNR digital and podcast platforms.
SEN Cricket is also delighted to announce that Indian legend, Ravi Shastri, will be joining its commentary team across the entirety of the Test summer ahead.
The coverage will be led by the game’s best play-by-play callers in Gerard Whateley and Adam Collins, who will be joined by cricket experts Damien Fleming, Simon Katich, Ian Healy, Lisa Sthalekar, and Ravi Shastri.
The team will be complemented by Bharat Sundaresan’s colourful analysis, and respected, award-winning journalists, Tom Morris and Peter Lalor, who will also join the coverage with the latest news right across the summer.
SEN Cricket will also be the first broadcaster on-air across the Test summer, with its new program ‘The New Ball’ airing live every morning.
‘The New Ball’ will be on air live from 11am AEDT today, ahead of the first ball of the Test summer at 1.20pm AEDT.
Triple M has bolstered its cricket commentary lineup for the first Test between Australia and India, with cricket royalty Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, and Aaron Finch joining the call.
Joining Johnson, Lee, and Finch in commentary are some of the biggest names in the game, including Mark Taylor AO, James Brayshaw, Mark Howard, Merv Hughes, Greg Blewett, Mark Waugh AM, Brad Haddin, Callum Ferguson, and Isabelle Westbury.
International cricket royalty Lord Ian Botham OBE and Triple M’s Dan Ginnane and Jack Heverin complete this incredible lineup.
With Local Radio concentrating on the third day’s play of the second test between Australia and India today, the ABC’s coverage of the second women’s ODI between the two countries, from Brisbane, will be heard on digital radio and ABC listen app only.
Corbin Middlemas said that Jim Maxwell is sick and won’t call today’s play for ABC Radio, but should recover in time for the third test in Brisbane later this week.
Mitch Turner said during the commentary for today’s women’s ODI between Australian and India that the ABC Radio’s call of upcoming BBL season will also be available on Local Radio station in the city where the match is held. For example, the season opener between Scorchers and Stars this Sunday will be broadcast on ABC Perth. Of course every match can be heard on digital radio and ABC listen app.
