I am really enjoying the SEN coverage, it’s not only about the cricket but capturing the atmosphere of the peaceful protests in Sri Lanka. It just highlights how important it is to be at the ground. It’s captivating .
According to The Australian, ABC Radio will have live commentary of the ODI series between Australia and Zimbabwe in Townsville (starting this Sunday) and also between Australia and New Zealand in Cairns next month, but without the services of Mitchell Johnson. The former fast bowler walked away from negotiations when the ABC told him he could not have any dealings with commercial gambling companies.
Hope he gets picked up by someone else. Can completely understand the ABC’s no sponsor position.
He’s apparently considering an offer to be involved with Triple M’s coverage.
and expect Fox Cricket to pick him up as well to replace the late Andrew Symonds.
To return to Fox
ABC Radio commentary team for the first ODI between Australia and Zimbabwe at Townsville: Clint Wheeldon, Ben Cameron, Robin Chipperfield, Kim Hughes, Australian ODI and T20 player Jason Behrendorff, and Nicky Shaw.
Plus an Englishwoman - didn’t catch her name.
I would assume they are calling from Perth.
It’s former England and Perth Scorchers player Nicky Shaw.
All but Chipperfield and Behrendorff called the final three days of Adelaide Ashes test from Perth last year, as the result of the ABC/BBC commentary team having to isolate in their hotel after one of them tested positive to COVID.
I could tell it was a remote studio call by the replay “Swoosh” from the Fox feed that came through at varying times.
That would happen anyway, as that comms-less feed is the stump-mic feed anyway for radio, whether there or not.
ABC Radio again calling from Perth studio for game 2 of ODI series between Australia and Zimbabwe in Townsville.
Former Zimbabwean and WA cricketer Murray Goodwin providing special comments today, in place of Jason Behrendorff. Goodwin is now working as a real estate agent in Bunbury.
That sounds sloppy. Normally at the ground they get a feed of just the stump-mic provided by the TV broadcaster. They then use their own ambient mics in the box mixed in with that.
Nup sadly - been happening since Fox took over.
A B-team calling today’s third and final ODI between Australia and Zimbabwe in Townsville for the ABC today: Robin Chipperfield, David Clear (WA Premier Cricket commentator), Mark Doran, Kim Hughes, Jason Behrendorff and Nicky Shaw.
Clint Wheeldon and Ben Cameron will commentate the AFL elimination final (Fremantle v Western Bulldogs) on radio this evening.
Great to hear former Seven Sport presenter Mark Doran calling live sport on radio. Now based in Perth, he had commentated on various sports for the world feed at the summer and winter Olympic Games over the past decade.
The Perth team again calling the three-match ODI series between Australia and New Zealand in Cairns, with the addition of Brett Sprigg.
No Bryan Waddle though (he has made numerous visits to Australia to commentate on radio, whenever the Black Caps are in the country, over the past two decades) which is a shame.
EDIT: Jason Behrendorff in the Perth studio:
EDIT 2: SEN is also broadcasting the ODI series across Australia and NZ.
Waddle only did so when the now ceased Radio Sport (and previous iterations) had the commentary rights and shared with the ABC.
Now SENZ are broadcasting the cricket but taking the Australian feed.
So they flew Spriggy from Sydney to Perth to join the team commentating on a match in Cairns?
ABC Sports DAB has the cricket and the confirm they have the T20 World cup rights.
SEN 1170 is not taking the cricket which is disappointing (you need to use the app) . It should be on analog radio and DAB to get the edge over the ABC which has it only on DAB.
They are from 6pm
