Cricket on Radio

While they originally weren’t meant to broadcast the Australia v Sri Lanka T20 series, it’s been confirmed that Triple M will be covering the series after all.

Guessing this is to make up for the Australia v New Zealand ODI series (which was meant to air on the station) being postponed.

Triple M’s commentary team for the Australia v Sri Lanka T20 series include James Brayshaw, Greg Blewett, Brett Lee, Brad Haddin, Dan Ginnane, Gus Worland, Brad Hodge, Jack Heverin and Barry Denner.

ABC Radio’s commentary team for game 1 and 2: Andrew Moore, Brett Sprigg, and former Australian players Stephen O’Keefe (who retired from Sydney Sixers at the end of the recent BBL season) and Stuart Clark.

Also, Jimmy Smith and Doug Bollinger are part of SEN’s (who are also covering the series for some reason) commentary team for Game 1. Not sure though who else is involved.

Interesting, considering CA haven’t said anything about SEN covering it :person_shrugging:

I think CA is aware. SEN is listed on the app!

Yeah but it wasn’t mentioned in their series guide. Only Fox/Kayo, ABC and Triple M.

ABC Radio commentary team for the third T20 match between Australia and Sri Lanka in Canberra: Matt Clinch, Quentin Hull, Dirk Nannes (fresh from calling Winter Olympics skiing events for Seven) and Stuart Clark.

At the end of the broadcast, Clinch said he would be joined by Nannes as well as Corbin Middlemas and Kristen Beams in commentary for game 4 in Melbourne on Friday.

The commentary team, which will call every test of the series on the ground, includes Adam Collins, Simon Katich, Waqar Younis, Isabelle Westbury, Peter Lalor, Bharat Sundaresan and Geoff Lemon.

Excellent news. For all their faults, SEN have done a really good job stepping in to fill the void left behind from the ABC no longer covering most overseas tours.

yes I agree. Well done SEN.

I’d be interested to know how this is being funded.

While some commentators would be there anyway there is still technicians/security and other staff so would be costing a lot of money. Even pre Covid SEN would call Big Bash and AFL games from the studio to save money.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the PCB is funding the costs of hosting the commentators in Pakistan proper- they are very keen for Pakistan to be seen as a ‘safe’ destination for cricket once more and hosting commentators on the ground is one way of them being able to demonstrate this.

And who knows, they might be doing the ‘world feed’ of English radio commentary.

I think SEN will have signed up sponsors which will be revealed at the start of its coverage of the first test.

That’s probably what SEN are most successful at, often to the detriment of their coverage when so many things need a sponsors plug attached.

No doubt heavy sponsorship involved but this is a very expensive broadcast. I suspect as someone suggested the PCB might be funding some of it via Cricket Australia.

SEN will have exclusive radio coverage of Women’s Cricket World Cup in Australia, as mentioned in the ICC press release yesterday (posted at Fox Cricket thread).

Loving the cricket on SEN after I finished listening to the Congo Line of course @dxnerd ! Another great show BTW. 3pm - 5pm Friday on Braidwood FM for those who are not aware of his show.

Yeah I flicked to SEN on the drive home  Glad to see they are covering both the Pakistan series and the Women’s T20 World Cup. In the past it’s been up to amateurs like Guerilla Cricket/Test Match Sofa. Gone are the days when the ABC would send their own commentators to India and Pakistan.

Could you get 1170 AM down there? Or did you “cheat”?
