Cricket on Radio

does abc local radio and grandstand digital use the same feed for the cricket, or does digital have a feed, that doesn’t have the news at the top of every hour?

it would be the same feed - they probably pause at the start of the hour for news and than go back to it and than if anything big happens give a recap when the news audience comes back (similar to what they do with the shipping forecast)

it’s also interesting that ABC grandstand is not steaming the cricket - it has alternate programming online. i had to pull out my Sagen DPR34 to listen as i normally listen on my Echo spot

That’s true. But before then the parliamentary broadcasts were on either national or local radio. The ABC only got the third metro AM frequency in the mid 1990s.

BBC Radio’s commentary team for the second test

Which possibly explains why Isa is replaced by Michael Holding in Sky Sports’ commentary team for this match.

ABC’s coverage of the 2019/20 Australian cricket season begins tomorrow afternoon (September 29) with the first T20 women’s game between Australia and Sri Lanka from North Sydney Oval. Commentators will be Andrew Moore, Brett Sprigg, Joanne Broadbent (former coach of Sydney Thunder and NSW Breakers) and former cricketer Michelle Goszko.

EDIT 29/9: Macquarie Sports Radio is also broadcasting the match.

Its interesting the womens cricket (Australia vs Sri Lanka) in on 702 am on a Monday, yet rugby league was not on analog radio in Sydney on a Thursday night. I am a fan of both sports just an observation.

EDIT: Cricketer Kristen Beams will replace Kirsten Pike for coverage of game 2 on Monday but Pike will return for game 3 on Wednesday.

I hope the ABC get the big bash as well. However a shame not on analog radio as often. At least on DAB/online. I was looking forward all the cricket being on analog radio. It will be like a couple of years ago when ABC had the rights.

Macquarie Sports Radio’s commentary team for the first test between Australia and Pakistan is: Bruce Eva, Tim Lane, Mark Taylor, Ian Chappell, Mike Hussey, Darren Lehmann, Glenn McGrath and Carl Rackemann. Taylor is doing ball-by-ball commentary.
I also notice that Macquarie’s cricket Twitter (mrncricket) has not been active since mid June.

SEN’s commentary team for the test match is: Gerard Whateley, Simon Katich, Anthony Hudson, Damien Fleming, Mel Jones and Pakistan great Wasim Akram. Akram will also provide special comments for Fox Cricket’s coverage.

Saturday and Sunday 7-8 December:
ABC’s commentary team for the WBBL finals weekend at Brisbane is: Quentin Hull, Andrew Moore, Australian women’s team coach Matthew Mott and former player Jodie Fields, with Zane Bojack as producer and on-field reporter.

12-16 December:
Bryan Waddle joins ABC’s commentary team for the test series between Australia and NZ, starting today at the scorching Optus Stadium in Perth. The recently retired cricketer Kristen Beams also returns.

Great to hear former ABC broadcaster Glenn Mitchell returning to cricket commentary too. He’s part of 6PR/MSR commentary team for the test match.

Tuesday 17 December:

Pretty sure this is the place to post this. When listening to the coverage via the ABC Listen App at the ground yesterday, the app was approximately 2 balls behind live play. Not sure how it marries up with TV.

I think it could be either digital compression or internet?

Former NZ captain Jeremy Coney has joined ABC’s coverage for the Boxing Day test.

However it seems that Tim Lane is not commentating this test for MSR. That leaves Bruce Eva and Darren Berry as the play-by-play callers with lots of expert comments from Ian Smith, Dean Jones, John Emburey, Glenn McGrath, Ian Chappell and Julia Price.

How come the DAB Abc Illawarra got cricket coveage and DAB Sydney Abc Local Radio Not Got Cricket
Coveage
Is the DAB abc Illwarra got the right there Cricket Coveage ONLT?

Assuming you’re referring to the online streams, not DAB+. All of the ABC Local Radio online streams do not carry sports coverage, and instead replace all sports coverage (including NRL and cricket for NSW stations) with alternative programming. This can be also heard on digital TV, VAST and the ABC Listen app.

For DAB+ and online/app listeners, ABC Grandstand has coverage of the cricket; it used to be available on the Cricket Australia website too but I’m not sure if that’s still the case.

Occasionally some of the Local Radio streams aren’t switched to the alternative programming feed - you usually hear this around times where emergency warnings are being aired.

If you’re listening to ABC Illawarra on a DAB+ radio however it’s more likely that you’re listening to 97.3 FM, which is airing the cricket.

thank for that

I spent a fair bit of today listening to the ABC coverage - I think Jim Maxwell is (sadly) starting to lose it, between getting frustrated at a kiwi fielding decision that allowed the Aussie to score singles, the weird comments about kiwis being good travellers and then the bizarre swipe at basketball

It is - the same applies for Macquarie’s & SEN’s coverages as well

Mind you he wouldn’t be alone in that sentiment, throughout print, radio, visual and social media, and it wasn’t the first nor will it be the last time.
