Well that’s the whole point of borders - a defined boundary of governance. Of course Queenslanders are still Australian. But states are allowed to erect border closures, that’s their right. And considering Palaszczuk got re-elected on a bigger margin by doing just that, it seems like locals of Queensland have formed the opinion that border restrictions are necessary. Yes, inconvenient, but necessary to protect public health. NSW closed the border with Victoria and successfully kept out a second wave.
Yeah I get that. You have to do what is the best interest of your states health. I do wonder if there is better options though and I do think their needs to be a national response. As this isn’t ideal for even people from their respective states. The rapid testing is quite a good idea, in my opinion.
One piece of information was revealed today by Jeannette Young, the Chief Health Officer of Queensland when discussing the SA outbreak.
In Queensland the cases that are detected in hotel quarantine are immediately transferred to a hospital for future care. This differs to the medi-hotel situation used in some other states including SA and could be a good model to look at going forward as it reduces the chances of the virus breaking quarantine.
I think the SA model seems fair for asymptomatic cases that don’t need to use hospital resources, but they really need to be sparing no expense to make sure there are no leaks. Seems the whole point of the medi-hotels is so that they can focus quarantine resources on positive cases and isolate them from other negative-testing travelers.
I find it unbelievable that the workers were not being tested, what other basic common sense measures are not being taken?
Well in their defense their should be a national standard that each state should be adhering to. This should include mandated testing for workers in the quarantine program. This is not a state based program it was developed at a National level and they should be making protocols and requirements.
Roma Mitchell Secondary College has closed this morning, with students instructed to go straight home and await further instructions after the department of education was informed that a student had tested positive.
A “large number” of people who attended the Mawson Lakes School/early learning centre between 11th and 13th of November will now be required to isolate for 14 days
Plus guests staying at the Peppers medi-hotel have been told that they will need to reisolate for another 14 days, including those who were set to be released today
Interesting few days ahead for us.
Better to get these people to isolate further or into isolation immediately than to take any chances.
Second time this school has been affected. Quite a large school too so it would no doubt be an area of concern for SA Health. Here’s hoping they will jump onto it quickly.
Will they definitely be released into the community in 14 days’ time? They can’t stay in the medi-hotel forever.
Assuming no issues, yes.
It all comes down to the fact that there was transmission within the medi-hotel, thus potentially infecting or even re-infecting those in there, including (more) staff
No doubt this will be very traumatic for some who were on the verge of being released
According to the ABC, 3 new cases have been diagnosed in SA in addition to the one reported this morning.
Thankfully, they’re all traced back to the cluster.
Apparently there were more than 5300 tests conducted so the testing numbers are slowly building up. SA Health needs to ramp up their effort and not hold back.
Absolutely but then again, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. I’d imagine they’d probably be transferred to the Pullmans?
There is no need to speculate on reinfection - the handful of cases of reinfection have been from immunocompromised people as far as I understand.
Agreed. Either there or Grand Chancellor? Rockford on Hindley was also reserved as a medi-hotel but not sure if it is being used for that at the moment
Probably should have phrased it better - not saying anyone has been reinfected as a result
It’s five now.
If the cluster is now at 20 that’s still only another 3 today.
I think on how the sa cho Nicola Spurrier is handling the sa outbreak all other states could learn from this and this should be the model ever state uses in when there is an outbreak when opening up and including here in victoria. I think once victoria fully opens up and if we have an outbreak like sa then our victorian cho brett sutton and even our premier should look at using this model
I don’t think Marshall should be given the credit for this. This is all Nicola Spurrier she has taken complete control of the response here in SA and has been more prominent than the premier.
ok then let me edit my post:) and thank you for pointing this out:D
If there’s one thing we can give Marshall credit for, it is letting the health experts do most of the work with minimal distractions which is their best shot at controlling the outbreak. Better to have the experts lead the response than someone who may undermine the potential of the health system.
The Victorian Government will start testing all freight truck drivers who cross the VIC/SA border. Details will be taken and they’ll be allowed to continue on while awaiting test results.
Well by all accounts earlier they both clashed on issues. I am glad she took control and not him, lets just put it that way. I don’t give him much credit at all. The things he should be responsible for aren’t exactly following any sort of protocols.
