Let’s be more optimistic and not wish 3 figures on any state and let’s hope it stays low and get under control real soon.
Preach.
I (and I’m sure all South Australians and Australians are with me on this one) would hate for this to go rogue and we go back into lockdown.
If NSW can contain clusters every now and then, I don’t see why SA can’t do the same.
People are talking about that being a negative though. It actually went from 4 to 17 in less than a 48 hours. I think this just proves how good the SA Health response has been. And lets remember as well of those 17 cases 15 of them are from the same family.
Of course people know of the significant risk but when you have the QLD Government advertising and the federal government encouraging local travel it is a significant kick in the guts to have borders suddenly closed. SA has 1 cluster. When there starts to be the mystery cases NSW, Victoria and QLD have had then I can completely understand states shutting borders. Shutting them when the source has been identified, close contacts quickly tested and possible locations closed for cleaning then I don’t understand the closures.
I think what Victoria is doing is quite smart, but I don’t understand the complete closures. Hopefully, if SA get the cluster under control, we can see borders back open.
Although I must say the South Australian leadership has to be questioned at this very minute. Daniel Andrews fronted the media at all opportunities. And unless I am missing something, I don’t think Steven Marshall has fronted the media as yet. And I don’t think a radio interview counts.
The response has absolutely been a case in point that other states are ready to spring into action if a case / cluster happens to pop up, great work by SA Health.
He’s fronting the media at 3pm this afternoon.
So close to 48 hours after the first case was identified. It isn’t a great look in my opinion. South Australian’s need to be reassured and transparency at this time.
Andrews created a rod for his own back doing this and to be honest, its a poor strategy that ended up turning the daily press conference into a circus.
They also need accurate, actionable information - SA Health have already been able to get a decent amount of information out for those who may have crossed path with those in the cluster
Let’s not forget that the SA border is already closed to Victoria which is a SA Health response. Then with Victoria having extra checks in place for those incoming it seems a suitable response given it’s just one cluster at this stage. If it gets further widespread I’d support further action but at this stage a lot of states are jumping the gun.
Do you think that a late afternoon press conference means anything? I’m not sure if these are common in SA but I know typically in Melbourne if Dan was fronting the media anytime from mid to late afternoon then it generally was because a lot of big decisions were being made during the day.
I’m very interested to see what SAs response will be to this. I wonder if there will be any short term restrictions (kind of like what QLD did when those few cases popped up). Or I think if they go with the standard response to a cluster that Vic will now be taking (like in the northern suburbs) by isolating the direct contacts and then the contacts of contacts they may be able to avoid that. But I guess we will get a better idea from the Govt soon.
If you can get on the radio and do an interview you can front all media for a press conference. I don’t think this has been a good look for Marshall at all.
Most of his press conferences have been in the afternoon in the past. So I don’t know. He hasn’t been like the other leads and has left it up to nicola spurrier
South Australia’s new restrictions as of midnight tonight -
All international arrivals have been suspended for the remainder of the week.
these are for two weeks at these stage
and private vistitors at home in now 10
Weird that Stephen marshal appeared to encourage aged care providers not to prevent visitors.
Banning visitors would have been the first move I would expect given what happened in NSW and Vic. Especially with no mask mandate.
also i would have expected masks to be made manditory not encouraged
Masks are mandatory in aged care where physical distancing isn’t possible. This has always been the case. My friend sees her grandmother and must wear a mask.
The positive news is there has been no further cases identified and they have been testing all those close contacts. So this is good news.
SA reintroduces restrictions, suspends international arrivals
Natasha Boddy
South Australia will suspend all inbound international flights and restrictions will be reintroduced from tomorrow as the state scrambles to contain a COVID-19.
“The next 24 hours will be critical but not going to wait for the situation to deteriorate,” he says.
He is announcing the following advice for South Australians:
- Work from home where possible
- Vulnerable people encouraged to stay at home
- Unnecessary travel discouraged
- Masks encouraged in cases where people can’t socially distance
The following restrictions will come into effect for two weeks from midnight on Monday:
- Gyms, recreation centres, trampoline, play cafes will be shut
- Community sport fixtures temporarily cancelled, and this applies to indoor and outdoor sports. Outdoor activities like bootcamps can continues
- Funeral will be capped at 50 people and churches at 100 people or one person per four square metres
- All guests at weddings will be need to be registered
- Private gatherings of licensed venues capped at 50 with one person per four square metres
- Hospitality, pubs, clubs and restaurants capped at 100 per venue with one per four square metres and no stand-up consumption even outdoors
- Maximum booking for over 10 people in our hospitality set pubs, clubs and restaurants
- Private residence are capped at 10 persons per residence
- Masks will be mandatory for personal care services like nail salons, tattoos and hair dressers
- Entertainment venues, theatres and cinemas will be restricted to one person per 4 sqm
- At aged care, visitors will be restricted to a maximum of two visitors a day
A lot of people in SA won’t have masks, so you’d need to give people time to get them before mandating. I don’t think that’s necessary unless the problem becomes more widespread. The CHO even said the restrictions could be eased in less than 2 weeks if they get on top of it. There have been no further positives today since the number reported earlier this morning which hopefully is a good sign.
and also an another intresting thing the press is being civil . if this was visa versa here in vic the media would be on a blame game
Liberal based media in south Australia unfortunately.
I agree but I do think it just needs to become mandatory on things like public transport.
What does it mean? Which activities are they referring to? If they had an approved COVID management plan, shouldn’t they be allowed to proceed?
Also, do the new restrictions apply to Adelaide metro only, or the entire state?
