COVID-19: News Coverage 😷

Eurgh. The PM took the vaccine to reassure the public that it was safe. Nothing more. Same with the CHO.

as of 5.30pm the age and the smh covid-19 live blog has ended for now and the forseeable future siting the covid-19 vaccation rollout and with case numbers stableising and some even falling for the reason.

Nooo. Every time they pause the blog in Melbourne, an outbreak occurs and they have to bring it back within 48 hours.

Yep… usually another Australian city goes into lockdown.

“one did not feel pain when receiving vaccine shot.”

Press conference interrupted Seven and Nine’s Morning News (at least in Melbourne)
(apologies for ABC cap quality)

ABC pulled out pretty quick… as they went to the PMs conference.

The media conference from Brisbane this morning had no live coverage on any main channel in Brisbane. Perhaps understandable for Nine but a big departure from other similar media conferences.

Media conference this morning announcing 3 day lockdown for Brisbane.
Main channel live coverage was only shown on 10; breaking into Studio 10 (no supers).

One hour later 10 was still the only main channel to show the media conference. Nine reported on it and crossed to Canberra for more info. ABC had a brief news report. Seven had no coverage.

A post was merged into an existing topic: COVID-19: Discussion of Impact :mask:

That’s pretty poor given the importance of such an announcement. I’d have expected the ABC News channel to be showing it live.

The press conference was shown on the News Channel. The Morning Show also aired the initial comments made by Annastacia Palaszczuk announcing the lockdown.

I know that because I watched both channels (flicked to News Channel after TMS cut away)

Ah, thanks. I’d gotten the opposite impression.

Thank’s for that. It must have been brief because when I looked up the conference was playing on 10 but none of the other networks.

I think the main point was that in Brisbane it was only shown live on ABC News and 10. The media conference was at 8:42 local time during Sunrise. I can see that Nine might have problems but what was Seven’s issue with such an important announcement.

The problem with delayed programming.

As seen after the end of lockdown announcement.

The problem with Qld (& NT) refusing to have daylight savings.

At least that problem ends on Sunday morning (until it resumes in October).

(I realise DST doesn’t make as much sense the closer to the equator you are, but this is the downside.)

It wasn’t a problem on ABC or 10 as Studio 10 provided live coverage all week, and ABC went to the national coverage after the media conference. Nine and Seven could have switched to a live feed as well and used filler after 11am.

Former West Aussie triggered

Daylight saving is a stupid and outdated concept. Just pick one (standard time or daylight saving time) and stay on it all year round. This twice a year change is annoying and unnecessary.

Exactly. They knew they had outdated content in the show and took the lazy option. Something WA viewers are subjected to all the time.

They should have continued with live coverage in to Queensland for an extra hour or used filler.

If Queensland doesn’t want to have daylight saving which has been proven time and time again in referendums that’s what they want.

TV stations in Queensland should be taking live feeds all the time especially for news programs such as Sunrise, Today etc. If they don’t want to do that then switch to a live feed in Queensland when necessary. It should not be a big problem.

Saying that daylight saving is an out dated concept is irrelevant just flick a switch and take the live feed in Queensland it should be that simple. No excuses.
