COVID-19: Melbourne/Greater Victoria Re-Opens

The two week shutdown of the construction industry has been officially announced:

When the Victorian Government announced last week on the closure of tea rooms in construction sites and the ban on workers travelling between Melbourne and regional areas, it also forecasted further measures would be necessary. Seems today’s violent protest outside CFMEU head office provided the catalyst for the two week closure.

The press release mentions “all government construction projects in metropolitan Melbourne” will be closed for two weeks. I assume that include road projects like West Gate Tunnel and North East Link, and level crossing removal projects currently under way on the Mernda, Craigieburn, Cranbourne, Frankston, Lilydale and Williamstown lines. They will have to make up for the two lost weeks somehow down the track.

West Gate Tunnel has serious problems and may never get finished - a two week delay is nothing.

It has been said that level crossing works will continue where it is impacting run of services to the line (line closures like Cragieburn and Frankston) , so they continue as it is essential

If it wasn’t for the pandemic, this would probably be the story of the year and the opposition might have had half a chance.

Nobody gives two shits about the tunnel and it’s problems…yet.

Today’s DoH tweet

Seems that the addition of pop-up clinics and delivery of more vaccines into the Hume region has finally worked. The first dose vaccination rate jumped up from 64% at the end of August to 79% as of yesterday.

I noticed across the networks he was the only reporter who decided to sandwich himself between the cops and protesters. I mean seriously Paul, what on earth did you expect? Rainbows and Lollipops?

Time to get the horses to walk backwards towards the protesters to scare them off?

(We all know what can happen when a horse kicks someone with their back leg…)

Blaming the journo is not on here. He’s doing his job and doing it well – far better than the other networks at the moment. Having urine poured on you in the middle of the street (even at a protest) is not something you should “expect”.

The police did warn the journalists of the consequences apparently should they decide to get closer.

TJ also had a slight jab at this said network also sending in its crew so close.

I am ashamed for these people. Totally fucked in the head. Cowards absolute cowards.

I was just watching live on Seven and someone threw a bottle or can right into the back of Paul Dowsley’s head. He was standing on the side street away from the protesters.

We are seeing the worst of society today.

Most of the people at this protest would have first hand experience too, they’ve clearly been kicked in the head by a horse (possibly repeatedly)

Has coverage of this just finished in Melbourne? I’m in Brisbane and 9 and 7 have only just finished.

Channel 7 are still live in Melbourne.

See news coverage topic.

I’m under the impression the news helicopter has had to refuel? Hence why we are not seeing air shots?

I’m in Richmond and can hear the constant whirring of a helicopter nearby.

The police helicopter will be doing laps, 10 currently have a live stream, might be the Traffic chopper I think.
