COVID-19: Melbourne/Greater Victoria Re-Opens

So do I, Dan said that they were focused on doing 2nd tests of close contacts yesterday and expected more positives, and they were going to spend today sorting out the fallout from those positives before re-opening. So this morning when there were zero cases it should have been all the information they needed to open early.

Most wouldn’t. but those that could of, should have been able to. I dont think anyone is suggesting anyone is forced to reopen.

Yep - I went to buy a donut at lunch time and the first 3 people I saw outside didn’t have masks on.

Does anyone really care if people aren’t wearing masks outside. It’s bloody hot. I’ve carried one with me but didn’t wear one outdoors over the last 5 days and many were the same.

Compliance in general is very low compared to stage 4 last year where I was quite a stickler for the rules. It didn’t feel proportionate this time around and I struggled with that.

Did we hear anything this time around about fines being handed out to people breaking the coronavirus rules?

I remember during the second wave last year we’d be given some examples of rule breakers each day.

Guess it depends on whether police were monitoring things as heavily this time around.

They’re certainly monitoring the protest groups, The police descended on a small shopping centre near me yesterday and negotiated with the protest organiser not to go ahead. Probably that approach rather than dishing out fines to people in parks is a better approach.

Personally, I hope those rouge businesses who opened are fined heavily. No time for that level of stupidity.

I don’t think it’s necessary unless it is something truly crowded.

And thus, Dan’s third stay at home order has ended.

Front page of The Age today.

“Businesses demand…” what?
How about “Businesses demand virus go away!”?

What’s the likelihood of this virus ever going away?

Not likely, but eventually - if everyone gets vaccinated - it may just become like the seasonal flu.

My point was the government actions are in response to the virus, not some arbitrary lockdown for no reason. The demands are not helpful. They may as well be demanding the virus magically disappear.

Probably low, it will depend a lot on the vaccination numbers - that’s not to say it’s not possible (It happened with SARS)

That’s nothing new really. We’ve been seeing this on and off for some months.

QLD were having waste water detections pinging all over the state only recently and it’s never transpired to anything as well.

It can indicate the presence of COVID-19, but it can also be from people who’ve had it but are no longer infectious (shedding of the virus particles, which are then detected).

It’s sensible to look for it and encourage testing in the areas to find any people who still have the disease.
