The Australian International Airshow, held at Avalon Airport outside Geelong in odd-numbered years, has also been cancelled for the first time in its history. It will be next take place in 2023.

The Courier Mail Bridge to Brisbane has been postponed to Sunday 7 November 2021.

Next month’s Royal Adelaide Show has been cancelled. It only has been cancelled for five reasons in the show’s history: the 1852 Victorian gold rush, World War I, the 1919 Spanish Flu pandemic, Worid War II and COVID.

Delta Goodrem announced this afternoon that her concert tour had been postponed for the second time. They would now be held in March to April 2022.

Earlier this week, Bluesfest cancelled its October event, while Jimmy Barnes also had to postpone his upcoming national tour.

Some good news this weekend with The Gold Coast Show going ahead. With the cancellation of the RNA in Brisbane this month, expecting bomber crowds - hopefully COVID safe vaccinated crowds.

The 2021 Victorian Schools Spectacular has been cancelled due to the ongoing uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s the second year in a row that the event was cancelled.

The Australian Open golf and Australian PGA Championship had both been postponed to early 2022 due to COVID pandemic. The PGA, scheduled for December 2-5 at Royal Queensland, has been pushed back to January 13-16, while the Open has moved from November 25-28 at The Australian Golf Club in Sydney to a date yet to be announced in late-January or February.

Also, the Australian season of Magic Mike Live has been axed after 26 shows due to Victoria’s continuing lockdown and state border closures. 120 shows were planned for the national tour which was to go to November 2022. 60 Australian performers and crew had lost their jobs.

UPDATE 10/9: The Supercars round and motorsport festival at Phillip Island, set for October, has been cancelled due to ongoing challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

I think the writing was on the wall yesterday. You’d think Cox Plate Carnvial will be the same too the week after.

Melbourne Cup Carnival might be a chance.


MVRC have conceded that there won’t be a crowd at this years Cox Plate Carnival.

They are now working towards having crowd from November 12.

Last night’s 7.30 on the ABC had a detailed analysis of the impact of COVID-19 on professional and community sport across Australia.

The Tour Down Under cycling event in South Australia has been cancelled for the second year in a row, due to the continuing impact of the pandemic. It will be replaced with a domestic cycling festival, as per this year. The Santos Festival of Cycling will run from January 21-29, 2022, and will feature a variety of cycling events, including track, BMX, mountain biking and paracycling.

Hours later, it was confirmed that Herald Sun Tour and Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Classic would not be held in 2022 for the same reason.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced this morning that crowds would be allowed into the last three days of Melbourne Cup Carnival - Cup Day (November 2), Oaks Day (November 4), Mackinnon Stakes Day (November 6), with up to 10,000 each day. Crowds at Oaks Day and Mackinnon Stakes Day would only be possible if the 80% double-dose vaccination threshold has been passed.
Andrews confirmed there would be no crowds for the first day of the carnival, Victoria Derby Day on October 30.
