This morning’s announcement that Queensland will close its borders to people from Greater Sydney from this Saturday, August 1, will have huge effects on sporting competitions like the NRL, Super Rugby AU and Super Netball. Sydney-based teams will need exemptions from the Queensland Government to fly in and out without having to observe 14 days self quarantine. Conversely, Super Rugby side Queensland Reds (who have matches in Canberra and Sydney in the next two weekends) will also need exemptions so players won’t have to self-isolate when they return home.
AFL teams Sydney and GWS will need to head to their Queensland hub earlier than expected.
