COVID-19: Greater Sydney & NSW Re-Opens

They’ve said all along this virus is wickedly infectious (to quote Dan the Man).

Have you been following how quickly it can spread at all over the last 11 months?

To be fair, I think he was more referring to the Northern Beaches cluster as opposed to COVID-19 as a whole.

That’s what I mean. 2 cases announced yesterday, 3 this morning and 12 this afternoon.

The ABC reports Tasmanian authorities had advised anyone in Tasmania who has been to high-risk coronavirus locations in NSW in the last six days to self-isolate immediately.
Also, future NSW arrivals will have their entry pass cancelled, and they will need to reapply and confirm they have not been to one of those locations.

Well who knows how long this has been circulating. It might not have grown as quickly as you think. It’s great they are onto it and finding the cases. People freak out when they here big numbers like 17. But I would be more scared if it was only those 2 and we didn’t find out where it came from. Finding the other cases will help to find where it’s come from.

No, but my point is, the disease spreads quickly. We’ve been told that since virtually day dot. So any spike in outbreak cases shouldn’t come as a surprise. This thing is incredibly hard to contain.

Victoria should do the same, we don’t want another round.

These idiots in Avalon and Palm beach who have been told to stay home and isolate for 14 days will not do it. They’ll lie and go about their business and ruin everything for everyone else in Sydney.

Why do you say that?

The rich think they can do what they want and get away with it

Was a common sight here in Melbourne during the June/July period.

They get the message when the tonne of bricks drops. Which came in August. While the state was mentally drained by the end of it, don’t think we will see this stuff down here again. Lessons learnt.

Their arrogance is astounding. There are also a high percentage of uneducated idiots up there despite their wealth.

Not to mention most mornonic Sydneysiders are behaving like the pandemic is over. Sydney city has been very busy this week all the shopping centers are full.

Wondering where this outbreak came from. How did it leak? Did it come from a quarantine hotel? Are there exempt international flight arrivals not isolating when they arrive back? Eg diplomats and foreign affairs public servants.

This is horrendous to deal with a week before Xmas.

My partners sister is meant to be flying to Melb for Christmas on Saturday! She hasn’t been to any of those areas but I’m wondering if borders could close tomorrow and she misses out. She hasn’t seen the family since last christmas. This couldn’t be worse timing.

Not surprising. The Northern Beaches is the region which had Tony Abbott as their MP for a quarter of a century until he was voted out last year.

Can you imagine trying to lockdown Sydney or hotspots over the coming months. Will need significant resources from all states to make that happen.

Locking down suburbs while the rest of the city roams. Forget it.

It’s the General Public that will screw this one up.

They should do what they did to SA and have a temporary permit system so they know where people have been and are from.

Apparently each states CHO are having a phone hook up tonight.

Victoria’s position remains unchanged.

The Northern Beaches is quite different to the failed strategy of locking down parts of Melbourne. There are three roads in and out, it would be a simple exercise to implement checkpoint restrictions to stop non-essential travel.

Yes. From what I’ve read it would be quite easy to lock down the Northern Beaches and monitor entry points.

According to Melina Sarris’s twitter, over 40 flights will be arriving into Melbourne from Sydney tomorrow.

Should Victorians feel worried? I’d hate to see local transmission reappear. How many of those people will be from the Northern Beaches area?
