Border closures aren’t ideal though. I think the risk is still low but I do think Victoria should place the exact same permit zone as they did with SA.
On the back of tonight’s CHO hook up, WA has locked down further. Anyone arriving from 12.01 tonight from Sydney must quarantine for 14 days.
Agree - just hate how border closures are now considered by the WA Government and many people (just look at the replies to the VIC DHHS tweets Jason posted) as being THE solution to combat every cluster/outbreak.
Not saying they don’t have a place/purpose (particularly if another VIC-type outbreak appears to be occurring). However, it just seems like people whip themselves every time this situation happens so much that they convince themselves border closures are the answer
What’s stopping them doing a domestic flight to Melbourne then onward to Perth. Or are all IDs check regardless of flights?
Looking to stay noticed?
He needs to F-Off.
Really? That’s the last thing we need…
I know opinions are like arseholes, everyone’s got one and they stink, but I really wish Pete would stick his opinions and his head up his own fundament and disappear.
Go away!
(Not you of course, Pete)
Queensland’s response is much more measured than WA’s. Why is WA treating everyone from NSW as a single risk group? Some visitors could be from regional areas and have not visited Sydney for months.
Exactly.
I feel really sorry for the honest people of NSW who haven’t visited the Northern Beaches, now having to undergo 14 days quarantine.
I suspect the reason the WA Government are doing one approach for the entire state is that for some reason they don’t trust people from NSW to be honest about where they have been.
A G2G pass declaration must be completed for all inbound travellers from other states that requests where the traveller has been in the last 14 days, of course people could lie but it’s a $50,000 fine and potential jail time if they do.
This was always going to be the outcome with the combination of Palmer losing the high court challenge, WA having 8+ months of no community transmission and consistently high public approval for border closures. I totally agree that we have strong evidence that it’s not absolutely necessary (The NT is an excellent case study of this) but the circumstances mean that this falls by the wayside quite easily.
G2G pass system which requires a declaration of your travel history. I’m sure some people lie and get away with it but the penalties are harsh…and WA isn’t that great anyway ![]()
