COVID-19: Greater Sydney & NSW Re-Opens

Jeezus Christ! I’ve been cautious to target my comments towards the idiocy of the leaders instead of the people. but seriously what is wrong with these people?

seemed like the rest of the press pack cleared the way for him to do his thing.

Gladys said “We haven’t seen the worst of it”

Looks like she’s seen the numbers after 8pm and it isn’t looking good.

As for the scenes at Cronulla, clearly some of the people have also played a big part in this with so many of them out and about even though it should be about 1% of that number, not to mention very few masks and minimal social distancing.

Yet no one (including Clennell) will ask about workplace transmission - again the media is getting fixated on singular matters (like the LGA movement restrictions)

What mechanisms do they actually have left to pull to reduce and prevent what appears is about to be a surge?

Dr Chant will not answer directly about harder restrictions needing. She’s clearly being muted by the government. She appears so u comfortable. What a situation to be in.

Unfortunately if someone catches the virus whilst doing one of the five essential reasons and brings it back to the family there isn’t much that can be done, though vaccination may reduce the effects.

On the other hand stopping unnecessary gatherings/people trying to find a loophole would somewhat prevent some of the preventable cases from popping up.

They must have something on her, what’s stopping her from walking? Pretty clear she would just leave tomorrow if she could.

I can’t believe they are still even entertaining the thought of opening up certain LGA’s. The language coming out of the NSW government is constantly mind boggling.

WTF? Are they really? AFTER RECORDING 600+ CASES?

I’m so happy I don’t live in NSW, the state that’s run by science deniers more interested in keeping the sixth cousin twice removed being able to see all his extended ‘family’ than keeping their citizens safe.

Scotty will need to get another order from somewhere. Regardless of price this is heading for the thousands in a matter of days.

Vaccination is the only option out of this…well it’s not, but it is for the NSW government

I did think that earlier. If it is true, and she thinks they need to go harder, why wouldn’t she speak up? As part of her health mindset to protect the state. Maybe she doesn’t? Who knows.

Absolute madness. I reckon one day in the future there will be an inquiry into this outbreak that will find a simple outdoor mask mandate would have reduced the R number below 1 and made all the difference.

Watching this, its clear that Chant (and her team) have put forward other measures but these have been knocked back. She is a rock in a hard place at the moment.

Didn’t she recommend much harsher restrictions ages ago, and then ‘went on leave’?

That would be an interesting convo. Remember the previous Health Minister in Vic. Has barely said boo during and since leaving.

It’s all in their contracts I guess.

They’ve been looking at options in regional areas to see whether there are LGAs they could open at the end of the initial 7 day period, but its looking less and less likely that its going to be practical or feasible.

You are focusing on the 90% that do the right thing. Unfortunately it’s the small percentage that do the wrong thing fuels these outbreaks. Gladys mentioned 400 infringement notices handed out yesterday, so it is certainly a lot of people visiting other that shouldn’t be. This is what has been happening in Victoria and is the reason we keep ending up back here. This is exactly why curfews have been implemented.

There has just been a lot of mixed messaging along the way too. I think that got lost two weeks ago and is where all these cases bubbling under the surface have taken off.

Anyway thinking of you all in Sydney. I know how hard it is to be in lockdown and doing the right thing but just seeing numbers go up. Really hope there is a shift soon.

Not surprisingly this forum is a hotbed of activity. Good to read everyone’s comments

To get into my observed nitty gritty of mask wearing in the community.
It improved greatly a few weeks ago & it’s pleasing to see what I reckon correct mask wearing compliance indoors (in retail business & centres) by around 98% of people as a guess. Probably 99.5% are wearing a mask in these indoor centres. This figure would & does vary from suburb to suburb.

Unfortunately on every excursion out, I see (typically 2-5 people in the space of 10 minutes) some people not wearing the mask over their nose & those people not observing social distancing whilst in indoor shopping centres & supermarkets.

Recently in a supermarket I saw in the space of 5-10 minutes two customers not wearing a mask & the staff in those supermarkets were still serving the two people.
In another small size business location, there was a security guard ensuring check-in compliance, but still allowing customers entry without a mask over their nose & those people coming into contact with staff & customers, i.e not social distancing for long periods of time.
Recently our household has decided to avoid essential shopping in some suburbs & places due to some people in those areas having little regard to their own health & others.
My own doctor advised me to avoid or reduce my time in & be very careful in supermarkets re COVID.

Personally for our own safety I’d like to see security guards at supermarkets. Clearly from my observances at Coles & Woollies, these businesses could be doing more to protect their customers.

There hasn’t been enough attention in recent days at the NSW 11am press conference re correct mask wearing compliance. Police can’t be everywhere all the time to ensure compliance, but the biggest businesses can have their security staff or contractors making sure customers are doing the right thing, as from my observances many of their staff aren’t ensuring compliance, probably due to concerns for their own safety from potentially agro customers.

Well what can we do? Aside from tanks in the street and military checkpoints you cannot see any more compliance happening… people couldn’t care less.

Perhaps the curfew could work…avoid these secret little gatherings in houses that are all happening surreptitiously.
