Hope it was via zoom
Uh-oh.
Youâd think lessons wouldâve been learnt there after last yearâs scare at Today Extra!
Unfortunately it was only going to be a matter of when and not if something like this was to occur thanks to this dreaded delta variant and the widespread transmission across Sydney.
The NSW Government reported today that over 70% of transmission in this outbreak is occurring within households.
How do we fix this? Can we fix this?
The real question is how is it getting back to the house? If itâs simply people who are getting groceries and being unfortunate to get it at the supermarket then there isnât much you can do.
Unless you can only do click n collect in those hotspot areas and the army helps the stores with the packing etc so customers arenât actually going inside.
Stop visiting friends and relatives.
Itâs probably something not viable to enforce - but some kind of system to divide up times for people going to shopping centres and other services could limit cross over.
So rather than a blanket curfew or anything - you just say that people with odd numbered houses should do their exercise/shop in the mornings on even numbered days and at night on odd numbered days, and vice versa.
Do a deal with the supermarket chains, or a scheme like the restaurant vouchers, to have a once a week coupon/discount scheme for going in your timeframes - as a way of trying to achieve it through incentives rather than fines.
And people wondered why the VIC Government didnât allow house visits when weâve come out of our recent lockdowns, but can go to the pub or visit outdoors. Hereâs your answer.
Get vaccinated and stop people from being infectious in the community - break the chains of transmission
Oh, because that will work! (not)
Similar things have happened with water restrictions and petrol rationing in the past and they have worked as most people are happy to comply - a bit like speed limits and parking restirciotns.
But Iâm not sure with the level of selfishness evident in society today would see an overly high compliance.
I take it youâve got much better workable ones then?
No, but I know doing that will not stop people going out.
So why be a sarcastic arsehole?
Yikes. 633 new cases.
633 new cases. Just horrible.
Omfg.
Three COVID-related deaths were reported to 8pm last night -
A man in his 60s from south-western Sydney died at Liverpool Hospital. He was a patient in the geriatric ward at the hospital and is the 9th death linked to this outbreak. He was not vaccinated.
Two men, both in their 70s and from western Sydney, died at Nepean Hospital.
158 of 633 cases are linked to a known case or cluster â 145 are household contacts and 13 are close contacts â and the source of infection for 475 cases is under investigation. 94 cases were in isolation throughout their infectious period and 30 were in isolation for part of their infectious period. Sixty-two cases were infectious in the community, and the isolation status of 447 cases remains under investigation.
224 cases were from south west Sydney, 216 from western Sydney, 23 from western NSW, 15 from Hunter New England, 4 from Illawarra Shoalhaven and 4 from far west NSW (including Broken Hill).
Deputy Premier John Barilaro said of the 23 cases from western NSW, 17 were in Dubbo, but there are cases in Mudgee, Narromine and Gilgandra. The four cases from far west NSW included three in Wilcannia and one in Bourke. 10 of the 15 cases in Hunter New England were in Newcastle, two were in Maitland and three in Lake Macquarie. Illawarra Shoalhaven has four new cases â three in Shellharbour and one in Wollongong. No new cases in Armidale or Tamworth.
Also concerning to see a drop off in testing numbers by about 50k from yesterday, meaning there could be more cases out there that havenât been found.
